ive researched (without posting a what is best 1911 thread!) and settled on a colt gold cup. everything i read indicates that the current production is really good... my question is i know some shops/distrubutors will have guns in the line for years, how can i tell that the pistol im looking at is recent manufacture? is there a serial # cutoff i can look for or anything else that will let me know it was made within the last year?

They sell them about as fast as they make them.

That's pretty much it.
Colt sells their guns as fast as they can make them and still can't meet the demand.

You'll rarely see a new Gold Cup, or even a good used one sitting in a shop.
If you have any doubts as to the age, simply call Colt during business hours with the serial number and they'll tell you the production year on the phone.

#? there is a HUGE gunshow here (d.c/chantilly) this weekend and im sure they will have some.

based on gunbrooker/gunsamerica im looking for under 1k; if the gunshow cant do it ill just order online and save on sales tax which makes up for shipping.

Gold cup not a good carry gun the rear sight has a habit of breaking . If your going to shot ball or HP make sure to change to the other recoil spring . Its a fine range, target, pistol. But because of adjustable sight not a good carry gun. my 02 If I was going to carry I look for a new 70 series or better choice for me a Commander.

Colts don't sit around getting dusty like Springfield's or Para. They sell quickly

its not a carry gun... its a range target gun. if i was going to carry i would carry my glock23 why would i carry a full-size adj sight 1911?

Actually, they don't.
The factory roll-pin that holds them on has a habit of breaking.
Replace it with a solid steel pin made from a drill bit shank and it will still be going strong long after you are.
