Colt's Original Factory a National Park?

Howdy

Whenever I drive from Mass to NYC I always look over to the right as I pass over the Charter Oak Bridge to get a glimpse of the Blue Dome. While I strongly object to Connecticut's recent extra restrictive gun laws, if the old Colt factory is turned into a museum I will certainly visit it. I have toured the S&W factory and the Springfield Armory, both pivotal forces in the development of the firearms industry in the Connecticut River Valley. I would welcome the chance to visit the old Colt factory too. And if and when I do, I will post a report of my impressions.

The project's leading advocate in Congress, U.S. Rep. John Larson, a Democrat, said in an interview that the park could provide a forum for discussions of Colt's historical significance and issues including modern-day gun violence.

"It can become a living monument to what transpired and what went into the making and planning of the place and what the ramifications of that are," Larson said.

Take an icon of firearms development and turn it into another forum for gun control propaganda, what a twisted creep.

Wow. It was a junior college facility when I visited Hartford over ten years ago. That's when I learned that Colt wasn't beneath the Tulip dome anymore. My consolation was to see the Colt Collection at the CT Sup. Ct. Bldg.

CT Politics

It is unfortunate that guys like Larson, Murphy and Blumenthal will use this historic site to further their anti-gun agenda. While CT continues to push numerous new gun control laws we are still seeing good, law abiding folks, getting their permits and hunting licenses and participating in the shooting sports. All of us need to introduce as many new people as possible to our sports. The pendulum can swing back.

As well as the surrounding area that can only be described as "ghetto". Both the old Colt's factory and Armsmear are going to be part of the national historical park. This is fantastic news!!!!!!!

You're right Craig, just seeing the pics of the old factory and the surrounding community is depressing. They needed to put some money there to keep it from getting worse.

Apologies, CraigC, for stepping on your Post. I don't read the entire site just the Black Powder forum.

I didn't mean it like that. Apparently the blackpowder forum is more interested than the general forum anyway. ;)

*chuckles* I agree. That caught my eye and it was an instant, 'bet the folks on the black powder forum would be interested in this', moment. I'm a revolver guy who is transitioning from regular firearms to BP so that I can continue enjoying target shooting for a while longer. It didn't cross my mind at the time about all the other great products that Colt has made over the century + it has been around. Being new here, I'm being extra careful to watch my step so thanks again! ;o)

It's easy to forget about all that other crap. ;)
