First, I know that the Ruger is a much better gun, not the issue. Tonight we are talking size only.

I have an old 3 inch Charter 44 bulldog, it has the nicer oversize rubber grips rather than the dinky wooden ones you used to see. This is about the limit of what I can front pocket carry.

(BTW, I'm a big tub of a guy who wears dockers with big pockets.)

How does the Ruger sp101 compare size and bulk-wise to the Charter.

I would like to get the Ruger in 327 and lop an inch off the barrel (Yes, I know it void the warrenty. I can live with that) and carry it with 32 mags.

What I want is a pocket gun I can fire with one hand and not break my wrist. All the 32 mags on the market are itty bitty 16oz affairs I'd rather not deal with.

Thanks
Joe

The old 3 inch Charter will weigh about 19oz. The SP101 in .327 with a 3 inch barrel will probably go 26oz. or more. The SP will be a little more bulky in the barrel, but depending on the grips, maybe less so on the handle end.

Aside from the weight, the 'footprint' will probably be pretty close to the same.

Instead of cutting an inch off the length of the barrel and lose velocity, I'd short-shroud it for weight reduction.

My 1st gen bulldog fits in my desantis thumb break holster made for my sp101.I pocket carry the BD though.I tried pocket carry for the sp.just too heavy.I like the idea of the new sp in 327mag though.an extra round is always nice to have.I love rugers for their toughness and ease of dissasembly.

Especially if you get the Hogue grips, .357 Magnum out of an SP101 with one hand is not a problem. Even with the stock grips it won't "break your wrist". If you really want the .327, I don't know why you'd load it with .32 Magnum if it's for defense of your life; the .327 is supposed to be very manageable.

Thanks for the info.

Certainly, I will try the 327s, its just that the 327 is a ballistic twin of the 7.62x25. Personally, I don't consider that round a lot of fun to shoot. I flinch way too much.

I figure the 32 mag, as a step down in power would be my next choice.

Also, I don't think the 327 round is going to last. I hopw I'm wrong, but I think it was born with a toe tag.

So I guess that's settled, there will be a 327 in my future.

Thanks

Joe
