Connecticut Newspaper Claims Statewide Firearms Ban Possible
http://www.nraila.org/CurrentLegislation/Read.aspx?ITNDrop=2434-L

The Norwich Bulletin claimed in an editorial today that State Representative Kevin Ryan (D-Montville) intends to take the failed Monvtville discharge ban statewide.

While Representative Ryan’s long-standing record in support of law-abiding gun owners would indicate that this would not be the type of initiative he would support, we are still trying to clarify Mr. Ryan’s position on possible statewide hearings and introduction of legislation in Hartford.

The Bulletin has revealed its anti-gun philosophy through news stories and editorials since the Montville discharge ban issue first surfaced and, with the unanimous vote of the Montville City Council to withdraw the ill-advised proposal, the paper has now set its sights on a larger prize: a state law designed to erode both hunting and shooting rights AND private property rights.

We look forward to sharing with you a clarification of Representative Ryan’s position on this issue as well as the continued distortions of the Bulletin. To see the editorial please visit www.norwichbulletin.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060915/OPINION01/609150317/1014.

Please keep checking your e-mail and www.NRAILA.org for future updates on this threat to the Right to Keep and Bear Arms in the Town of Montville!

From the CT state constitution:
SEC. 15. Every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state.

Good thing our lawmakers don't have to pay attention to such old-fashioned restraints as constitutions anymore!

Ditto, does anyone actually think the lawmakers will pay any attention to that state constitution?

Chicago and DC don't pay any attention to the US Constitution, why would Connecticut legislators pay attention to theirs?

To Contradict

This anti attack, we need to use the failure of this proposal to rally the towns across the state to overthrow Their firearms bans..

I was just discussing this with the folks at the "Save Metacon" charity shoot yesterday, there will be outcry. There WILL be outcry...

I was actually very sad to see such a relatively poor turnout at this event yesterday. We ARE going to lose our gun rights slowly but surely if more area shooters don't get active. For those of you who don't know the story of Metacon yet just type in "Metacon gun club" and follow the links. They'll tell you all about it.

romma has it right. We need to focus the fact that Montville OVERWHLEMINGLY rejected this proposed ordinance. Besides, BGs don't check to see if they are within 500' of a residence before lighting someone up. Hartford, New Haven and even New London have had their share of shootings, but no gun discharge law will stop that. :banghead: I've sent Ryan a message twice so far, I guess a third time is in order. 280, you forgot to remind me to head over to Simsbury! I'll just have to send them some green.

Yea but I believe Jodi is on our side because shes squashed things like this before. So we better make sure she stays in office.

You know, I didn't even think of mentioning it Saturday Distra. It turned out to be in Colebrook not at Metacon so it woulda been quite the haul for you. "Northwest CT Sportsman's Association". WHAT A NICE RANGE!! NICE PEOPLE TOO!! They've got a rifle range out to 285 yds and are continuing to clear it back further. As it was when the Metacon people heard I drove all the way from Hebron, they bought me lunch. :D

They put these heavy life sized steel "rams" out at 275 yds and shoot offhand at them with centerfire rifles as one stage of their sillhouette match. You can only shoot lead at them though. You KNOW I gotta go try that. :p

I'll tell you though, when I realized how far out it was I was VERY tempted to go right past it and tackle Bear Mountain instead. There's just some BEAUTIFUL country out in the northwest hills.

Letter Sent

to this Kevin Ryan... I explained and challenged him to pass real legislation to deal with criminals instead of trying to create new criminals out of hard working law abiding citizens...

mine sent also...

Sir,

Please let me add my name to the list of those who strongly oppose the acts of you and your Democratic party cronies in the process of trying to slowly whittle away the rights of the law abiding gun owner in the State of CT. I'm sure our foreign enemies applaud this latest effort on your part to limit our means of defense while we, the many gun owners here in CT, I can assure you, do not. The Democratic party has lost my allegiance due to their ongoing efforts to eliminate my 2nd amendment rights. Even though I live in a neighboring district I will gladly do what I can to support your Republican opponent in the next election should you proceed with this latest tomfoolery.

Thank you and have a pleasant day

Dear Mr. 280plus,

My position in the Norwich Bulletin was not clearly stated and the Norwich Bulletin has made the correction to this editorial for this and other reasons. It was not my intention to introduce the Montville Ordinance at the state level.

Sincerely,

Kevin Ryan

State Representative

139th District

:D

It's funny how no state to my knowledge follows the laws that they have on keeping a well regulated unorganized militia. Even NY has one, and due to conflicting laws, following the state militia laws would result in a LOT of arrests.
