Considering an AR-15

I am a bolt action guy, but I have an itch for an AR-15. I have a friend selling his with little use on it. I am considering buying it, but we have not negotiated a price yet.

Would it be wise for me to purchase a post-ban rifle this close to the AWB sunset, and let's just assume it will not be renewed for sake of discussion? I would assume that the price on a post-ban rifle will DROP after September 2004.

So, should I buy it now, or wait under the assumption that the ban will not be renewed?

I'd go ahead and buy it now. The price for post-bans is not going to move much, only the price of pre-bans is going to fall significantly. Remember, *if* the ban sunsets, you'll be able to put all the "naughty" features on a post-ban receiver legally, and there will be no reason to pay a premium for a pre-ban anymore.

Post ban rifle values won't be affected very much, if at all. More folks care about having a collapsible stock rather than a bayonnet lug and just about every AR15 on the market can be fitted with one. Bayo lugs are another story because many post ban ARs have a permanently fixed muzzle brake.

An Ar15 is a good investment no matter what happens.

in my searching it seems pricing for law enforcement only guns are about equal to post ban models now, why would a supplier drop there prices if the ban was to sunset. only existing preban models in individuals hands might come down to post ban prices but the market isnt go to drop super cheap.

buy it now and have fun.

If you can purchase it at a good price why not? As previosly stated when the ban sunsets you can add whatever you want, or just buy a new upper.

when I bought my bushmaster preban 10 years ago I paid 950 plus tax so the 850 price now is still 100 less if the ban sunsets well be paying a little more im sure for the preban features again but then thats when Ill get the RRA rifle ive been wantinf I have 2 busshys this one is next
