On BF, ongoing discussion on new Boker Magnum Camp having Becker's trademarked handles. Boker rep says it's not a model to be sold in the US, and that's all. They just stamp their name on blades, they don't make them.

I've never really been into Boker, for a few reasons including steel choice, country of origin, and designs. I however hate to see companies stealing.

Thoughts?

Well, I don't know enough about it to have a definitive opinion.

It was my understanding that the origin of these was from Boker purchasing a bunch of Becker scales after Camillus folded.

Is that correct?

So I guess the Chinese contractor just started making their own scales after stock ran out?

hso will swing by shortly and give us some definitive answers.

I hope to have the story tomorrow.

We should assume that Ethan Becker wouldn't approve the use of the steel nor the production of a design of his in Boker's Magnum line. Boker would have to bring out a Becker in their primary product line. The grips are "close" to the Becker grips and that's not going to fly if Mr. Becker didn't license them, which he wouldn't do with KaBar producing his knives.

I guess the CLB Subcom Titan shall remain the only Boker I own. Ethan Becker is an incredibly nice and gracious person. This just tees me off. :fire:

This has been going on for a couple of years after a Chinese molder that used to produce the scales made them again. Pure rip off and a conscious leverage of the Becker reputation without any payment.

Ethan talked to Dan at Boker USA about it at the first appearance and Dan relayed the complaint to Germany and told Ethan and them he wouldn't put it in the US inventory or catalog. That made no impact with the parent company so it has been a sore spot for a bit. Lesson learned - never trust the ethics of a European (or many other countries/regions) company.
