Anyone have experiance with this new "Powerball ammo" by CorBon. How about the federal Expanding FMJ?

The Fed EFMJ's Ive shot didnt make it my favorite carry round. For a +p loading its quite anemic...typical federal. It also shot low in 3 of my 9mm's...

Now the Powerball is another story..its wonderfully accurate and has more kick than damn near anything out their. This is my new favorite "NICHE" CCW round.

Shoot well.

I'm really interested in the 115gr. 9mm variety that I heard Mr. Stephen Camp mention that is supposed to be over 500ft./lbs., but I haven't seen it anywhere. The 100gr. is cool, but I'd like to have something at least 115gr. in a full sized gun.

I'd worry about penetration ...

I'm not saying that I know the penetration to be insufficient, but I'd make sure to research it. Remember, you need to be able to reliably damage tissue 12 inches deep.

Ammolab.com has done a lot of good research already. You might spend some time there to narrow your choices.

Shoot straight

Wow, that's a long sig, anyways...does 12 inches of tissue penetration = broken breastplate that covers the heart or penetrated skull? I don't think so....

The chest is only 10" deep on the typical individual and most JHPs have the ability of over-penetrate. However, most shot fired under duress will not be under the most ideal conditions with frontal shots not a given, and even an arm acting as a barrier can prevent a light bullet from reaching the vitals.

Personally, I've decided the G-A 115 +P+ GoldDot is the ultimate defensive round for me. Super accurate, consistant and packs tremendous punch for a 9mm. My K9 loves it and that's good enough as far as I'm concerned. I not one to constantly chase the current fad.
Having the ability to push a uniformly expanded 9mm roughly the diameter of a nickel with 100% retained weight 10-12" into an assailant is good enough for me.
I think I'll stick with this round until I either switch calibers or pulse laser pistols hit the market.

In 9mm the Pow'R Ball makes it to 12" the 45acp loading makes it 14". Both are thru 4 layers of denim. My Colt is loaded with the 165gr+p Pow'R Ball.

Contrary to popular belief, denim actually increases the depth of penetration of JHPs, but not (or to a far lesser degree) of non-traditional expanding bullets that do not feature an exposed hollow cavity.

Nonetheless, I would be interested in the results of Pow'r Ball against bare ballistic gelatin.

Any idea where you can get this stuff on-line without a UPS signature?

My company would treat having ammo sent there the same as bringing a gun to work, so that's not an option.

Cobon's website itself doesn't say one way or the other, and their e-mail link doesn't work for me.

Thanks.

Posted results at Ammolab showed bare gel penetration of 12" to 13" for 45acp and I can't seem to find results for the 9mm.
