Cowboy Bebop--Excellent gun toting anime

Might have been a Sig Sauer in the movie. If not, whoops.
At least it's a good gun.

Respectfully, Nightcrawler, Spike never uses a Mossy. In Ep 25, it's an 870. Look at the carrier; also, the bolt appears rounded, as would fit with a Remington.

Also, I thought it was an 18" tube. Could be mistaken on that.

I don't think I've ever seen a pistol with rifling as pronounced as the ones in Bebop. :D My favorite gunplay scene is when Faye uses her glock to nice effect in the arcade on one of those shooting games. An evil thought that I must admit has crossed my mind.

I need to check out gusmith cats, have heard numerous postive comments.

Don't forget the T/C in Sympathy for the Devil. I think that Spike is also seen with a Ruger as he arms up to meet Vicious in Ballad of Fallen Angels.
Unlike other anime, there is actually some good music in Cowboy Bebop. I like the atmosphere, kind of Sci-Fi Noir.

I too am a big fan of Cowboy Bebop. It is a great show that much like Kill Bill borrows imagery and stories from great movies of the 70's.

Jet, of course, had the Walther P99.
Don't forget he also has an Uzi, he never uses it in the show but he loses it to Faye.

Spike had a Jericho 941, though we also see him with a Beretta 92, and I think a Ruger P89 once too.
He uses a Thompson Encore or Contender in "Sympathy for the Devil"

In the Cowboy Bebop movie, Vincent's pistol was definately a 1911 variant. But, given it's capacity, it definately wasn't normal.
I personally believe it is Strayer Voigt, double stack, with a 6" barrel. Like this one.

Nightcrawler - Re: Gravity

Right - I'm an idiot.

I wonder what planetoid I was thinking of that has 4/5th Earth gravity?

At any rate, I agree that it was acceptable artistic license.

In addition to the great gunplay and such in Cowboy Bebop and Gunsmith Cats, they also have stories that a normal human can follow (unlike much of anime that is esoteric and bizarre just for the sake of being esoteric and bizarre ... maybe someday I'll understand Lain)

Another anime title with modern guns that you might want to check out is Spriggan. From memory plenty of G3's, AK's and MP5's. Pity the story wasn't the best I've viewed.

As much as I like Cowboy Bebop I have to go and plug Lupin the 3rd. It's got some great oldy firearms in the show, I guess cause the show is pretty old itself. The lead character Lupin carries a Walther P38, Jigen carries a S&W m-19, Fujiko has a Luger P08, and Detective Zenigata has a 1911a1. Some submachine guns show up like Thompsons, Swedish Ks, and MP40s, but I was blown away when I watched the movie Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro. Can you say "Lahti 20mm action!":D

You think Lain is hard to understand try watching Foory Coory or my favorite Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

I know its not anime, but still have no clue what that show is about, but still love it. Also there is an episode that shows a great lesson in remembering the 4 rules. Master Shake invades Carl's house and Carl busts out a shotgun to get Shake off his property. We later cut back to this scene with Carl on the floor with his foot nearly blown off telling himself "I thought it wasn't loaded."

Dang you guys, I wasted my whole weekend watching Cowboy Bebop. :p :D

It was the first anime I have really watched but I gotta say, it was really good. I'm watching the movie now... :D

And ATHF... man.. you gotta love it..

I just watched Jin-Roh last night.

Lots of MG42's and STG44's, broom handled Mausers, MP40s etc. In fact everything is German: cars, books, everything. And the suits that the soldiers where are very Stormtrooper-ish.

It begins and ends with some very intense and suspensful action scenes. Most of the story is dialog driven, and it is a bit long, but well worth it. The art and animation is excellent.

It's one of the few animes where the ending made me almost 'have something in my eye'... :)

I am not a huge fan of anime, but Cowboy Bebop is excellent. I also agree that the ending is one of the best I have ever seen for a series.

And Aqua Teen Hunger Force is hilarious
(not quite the same amount of gun play, though)

Nice to know others here have the same taste as me.

Not to "nit pick," but Jigen's rifle in "Castle of Cagliostro" is a Soviet 14.5mm PTRD.

As I recall, there have also been discussions among gunnie otaku (or at least quasi-gunnie otaku) whether Jigen's revolver is a Smith M27 or M19 - do not know, answer is probably in the original manga or maybe a movie or TV Roman Album somewhere.

Enjoyed "Jin-Roh" a great deal - an all time favorite "gun movie" for my wife and I. Story is very good as well - could almost have been a live action movie, except Oshii did two others along similar lines "Red Spectacles" and "Stray Dog" and they just did not rise to the level that the anime did.

I liked the "Gunsmith Cats" manga and anime way back when I could only get them in Japanese and then got fed up with them when I saw the Dark Horse translations - Rally is what, 18? Recently I decided to revisit them and "not take it too seriously" and discovered that I liked them again.

Frank Exchange Of Views, its been along time since I've seen Castle of Cagliostro, and now looking at the pictures on the internet it is not a Lahti. But its not PTRD its a PTRS.:p He fires semi-auto shots in the movie. Its good to know someone else watches Lupin the 3rd.

As for Jigen, I still think he carries a 4" 19, but it could also be a 5" 27, it all depends how big or how small the animator wants to draw the gun I suppose.

Arrrrrggggghhhh! You are, of course, correct - it just kills me that I mixed my Soviet anti-tank rifles that way.

Very true about the relative "perspective" in animating the guns though.

Yeah, I like ol' Lupin a lot though I will cheerfully admit that the Miyazaki "version" is pretty much my favorite take on Lupin and the rest of the gang.
