coyote choices?

I've knocked off eastern coyotes with .22lr, 9mm, 12ga., .223, .243, and .308 reduced-recoil, which is similar to 30/30 in performance. I've also hit some with well placed shots that didn't go down. Shot placement is key - hit the head and they drop, double lung and heart and they can still run out of sight sometimes. Unless you want to stuff it, I'd use a bullet that makes a mess.

Similarly, bullet choice matters as does the range you're using them at...if you're using a .22lr.

Depending on the terrain and the type of hunting, I think the OP's got a number of solid options. Carry the 9mm, jump a yote and shoot him; and keep a long gun close by. The 12ga or the .22 are fine for inside 70 yds, and the rifles further, depending on accuracy and optics. Or, go out looking for them...I shoot orange price tags at 200yds with my .243, and a 75gr Vmax can really eviscerate a coyote's head; my go-to for daytime/evening hunting.

Around here, hunting at night is limited to a .22lr...a night vision scope helps considerably too, along with a couple of predator calls. I use CCI Velocitors.

Another vote for the 243.
In fact since you are trying to get rid of coyotes I suggest being cheap and just buying any soft point 243 ammo of any grain weight that you can catch on sale.

I got some 110 grain hp over a massive dose of h335 that will turn that 30-30 into a 300 yard yote getter.

Just make sure you don't shoot out the passenger window. Might catch your vehicle on fire.
I vote either high powered rifle.

243 for everything

your 243 with a 80 grain bullet is one of the best coyote slayers you have one of the best long range guns around use it and watch the dogs die

Good luck:)

243 since this is what you already have varmint hunting I one of my favorite sports what state are you in Butcher boy?

Forindooruseonly

I just thought u should know I have shot on different occasions probally 35 yotes with a .22 Lr and got instant kills it's all shot placement don't be a bad shot and you'll see the same results

Went out dove hunting with my dad today in Virginia about 30 miles West of Richmond (on the farm where they shot some of John Adams) we took a .22 Mag and a .223 in case we saw some groundhogs. We saw 3 coyotes (including those 2 I've only seen 4 my entire life..all at that farm) he took a shot at 2 with a .22 Mag...said he rushed the shots and both ran off. He might have gotten one, but I hope not. I've seen people say they hunt them with .22 mag, but I think .223 is about as light as I would go.

Your 243 and 12 gauge with some sort of buck shot are the best choices from your arsenal.
