What third option?

I only listed two models that I am considering. I did mention the Leupold VX-II 6-18x without the target knobs that's adjusted with a tool or coin. As far as I can tell from Leupold's literature, the VX-III 4.5-14x is "finger adjustable."

I still think you're missing the perfect chance to get the ballistically superior 6.5x55, in one of the last remaining factory rifles to offer it. Especially since you're reloading.

I have been thinking about 6.5x55.

It's funny how this post is getting me to change things all around :D

That's good though. I don't want to regret my purchase.

CZ 550 American .308 Winchester Rifle with 24" Barrel $634
Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x 40mm Scope $482
Leupold CZ 550 1" Scope Ring Mounts $50
Harris 1A2-BR 6" to 9" Bipod $59
Hornady .308 Winchester Reloading Dies $31
200 Remington .308 Winchester Brass $63
200 Nosler 168 gr. BTHP .308 Winchester Bullets $49

Don't know about the CZ... I do know that you can buy a used accurized Remington 700 with a match-grade barrel for about that... Can you buy a good trigger for the CZ? You're gonna want a good trigger.

Lose the bipod - shoot over a backpack, maybe with a towel on it. It'll be a LOT more consistent.

Get weaver-style mount/mounts, and Leupold QRW rings. I love mine.

You need a full-length size die, which you'll set to just bump the shoulder back a tad. You can use a press-mounted seater or a hand-die with an arbor press.

A box of 100 Lapua cases, not overly abused, will last long enough to wear out that barrel.

I -really- like Nosler ballistic tips for the .308.
