Sorry ...I wasn't trying to ruffle your feathers. My assumption was based on your statement of putting 50 pieces in your tumbler. I have the same tumbler and usually put ~200 pieces of 06 in when I tumble.

I bought some stuff off ebay once called "black diamond" (or something like that). It was supposed to be for really dirty brass. I used it a couple times, it works pretty well. The thing is that you only tumble for 15 minutes max. It takes the big chunks off, then you can finish up with walnut or corncob.

No worries, and I appreciate the input. I started with about 100 pieces, but they barely had room to move and it did esentially nothing.

When tumbling 45 acp or 38/357, I do ~ 200 at a time, which works well.

Try, your nearest lapidary shop, they have different polishing media there, than what we use for reloading. They have a broken brick mixture(chips), small metal pellets, plus a lot of other used to polish rocks,or you may try sandblasting media, silica, glass, beads,or carborundum. You can add these mixtures to your regular media.

But you wouldn't want to run your brass in any of the super agressive mixtures, for any longer than needed!
