Cure(s) for warping wood rifle stock...

- I suspect the answer is "Boyd Brothers" but before I spend the bucks, just wondered if anyone has a cure.

I hae a Parker Hale '06 that handles very well. Thus, the reluctance to just get a new stock. When I purchased the rifle, I free floated the barrel by a decent amount as it was not free floated. Over the last two weeks the forend tip has snugged itself back up to the barrel. This has affected zero and is not great for accuracy.

My thoughts - rebed rifle placing more of an upward tilt on the barrel and also really hog out the barrel channel.

If that dosen't cure the warping, time for Boyds.

Anybody have any other thoughts?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but you did seal the wood inside the barrel channel after you relieved it.
Right?

I can honestly say i've never had a stock warp on me in my life, but i live in the desert.

I think that keeping the rifle somewhere where it's airconditioned would help some, as the humidity is next to 0.

i'd hog out the barrel channel some more, and seal up the grain of the wood afterwards.

B27, nope. Somehow I figured a mere two weeks between hogging and shooting would be no problem. I take it that you think re-hogging the barrel channel and a quick coat of poly would work?

Sounds like a plan - I'll try it out over the weekend..

Yep. I reckon some of that polyurethane wood stuff would work just fine.

anyone used marine spar varnish on a stock? Couple good coats with some steel wool in between coats would do pretty good I should think. For my cabinets I alwasy used Deft varnish. But Im not sure how it would hold up to outside use. Spar varnish holds up pretty well

Spar Var will work in a barrel channel but the spay plastic stuff is less hassle and holds up better. Varnish is the bane of all wood stock unless you like that really cheep red army chipped look and dont mind someone hunting you down and pounding you on the head with the stock as its a real pain in the rear to fix a stock after someone trys to destroy it like that.
