Cylinder is stucked

Hallo.I just bought a nice S&W Victory revolver in 38 special. shot 150 rounds light ammo.cleaned and luped the gun and now the cylinder wont sving out and the cylinder wount turn.Its totaly jamed.Is there a way i can force it open. I dont wont to damage the gun.I tok the grip and front plate off is it the cylinder which is stucked because off the ejecktor is not all the way back.Hope one off you clever persons know a way

The ejector rod is unscrewed and binding the cylinder release.

You need screw the ejector rod back in far enough to get it open.
Then, put two empty cases in two chambers, and tighten the rod,
I'd suggest clamping it lightly in a vice between two V-grooved wood blocks and then hand tighten the cylinder.
Tight, but not so tight you twist off the delicate threads on the ejector rod.

Ejector rod backed out under recoil and is now binding against the small "lug" under the barrell. Try to screw the ejector rod in while also trying to swing out the cylinder. Do not apply excessive force. When cylinder swings out, either;
1. screw ejector rod completely out and apply 1 small drop of blue loctite adhesive to the bottom of the ejector rod to semi-permanently fix, or
2. remember to periodically tighten ejector rod with use.

If I remember correctly the ejector rod on my Model 15 is left handed thread so be careful not to try to turn it the wrong way.

Are you sure it is chambered for 38 spl, not 38 S&W? While 38 spls are supposed to be too long for 38 S&W cylinders, I've seen some where a light bullet, resulting in a shorter than usual COL would fit. But the pressure would be much higher than a 38 S&W.

If that's the case, you may have backed a primer out resulting in a bound cylinder.

Howdy

S&W did not change over to left hand threads on the extractor rod until 1961. Victory Models would have regular right hand threads and be subject to the rod backing out from recoil.

So would newer models be subject to this problem?

I have a Model 10-5 made about 1975, a Model 36 made about 1976, a Model 25-11 made in 2001, and a Model 21-4 Classic made in about 2004 I think. What say you? Thanks.

Thank you all for your great advise.What i dont understand is that the revolver was just fine after I had shoot and cleaned it .But when i took it out af its holster the next day the cylender was turning but it woul not swing out.Now it wont turn and not swing out

If you are unsure of what the fix is to your problem, you should take the revolver to a reliable gunsmith. It seems you are not sure of the problem, therefore not sure of the solution.

It Makes sense.I can se that the ejektor is stucked to the hammer wall but i can not move the rod itself for making it shorter so i i proberly has to take it to a professional Gunsmith.

the ejecktor is not all the way

Any form of dirt between the cylinder & ejector will jam it. Maybe not as clean as you think. Good Luck.

To tighten the ejector rod if the cylinder is stuck shut:

Take a business card and slide it in the front of the cylinder window below the cylinder move it front to back until you have depressed the cylinder stop bolt. With the card in place put your thumb on the ejector rod hold it in place while you rotate the cylinder clock wise for a newer post 61 gun and counter clock wise for an older gun. This tightens the ejector rod so you can open the gun.
The card holds the cylinder stop bolt down so you can turn the cylinder freely.
