Well...almost a month into deer season and I have had the chance to break in my 6.5x55 Swede. So far it has performed great. I have taken two hogs and a fox with it and all have been stopped in their tracks. I have not shot a deer yet. I have had many chances to take a doe and have had a chance to take a 9 point with about an 18 inch spread but decided to pass it up. I saw a 10 point the week before the season started and would really like to get it so that is why I passed up the 9 point.

So I just wanted to say to all those who told me it was a great hunting round...you are right! Not only does it do a great job but it also has very little kick. I really noticed it after I shot the first hog. While I was looking at the hog it occurred to me that I could not remember any recoil from the rifle...hum....so when I shot my second hog the next morning I thought about the recoil before I shot just so I would be thinking about it when I shot and low and behold it was like shooting a 22! WOW! Now that I have shot game with it and did not feel like I was being punished to shooting it I plan on it being my go to deer rifle...that is of course until I buy my next rifle...:D

Congrats !!!! (and where are the pics???)

I'm betting your Swede is going to grow on you fast and if you don't hurry up and buy that "next rifle" you'll quickly end up like one of those crackpots who have gotten stuck on .243s.

:D

By the way - what scope and mounts did you put on that rifle ?

I have a Zeiss Conquest 3.5x10x50 on it and the gun came with CZ mounts.

I do reload for it. I almost did not use it and was looking at my 270 because I have been able to reload for it and get better results than I have so far for the 6.5 but the difference I decided was not that much and then a couple of days before the season began I ran across something online that allowed me to age my 270. It is a Browning BBR and was made in 1978. I bought it this year used at Cabela's and it was in mint condition and when I found out it was 30 years old and not a scratch on it I decided that I would use the 6.5 and boy am I glad I did! Not only have I protected the 270 but I found that the 6.5 performs incredibly well.
