This past January I bought a Cz-82. The 82 is simply a great gun. I've put about 300 rounds through it in the past few months. The problem I'm running into is that in south Louisiana the 9x18 round isn't sold by most retailers. Does anyone on here know if it is possible to get a .380 barrel for the 82? If it is possible how much would it cost and where could i buy one? I was thinking of just buying a CZ-83 if i can't find a .380 barrel.

Get the 82 and order the ammo online. The ammo is far cheaper and easier to come by than .380 ammo. Even after shipping you'll save money.

I own 3 9x18 pistols, including a Polish P-64 which is my everyday carry piece. Frankly, the 9x18 round is completely superior to the .380. Even if it's not available locally, it's very available online at a very low cost. I keep S&B FMJ ammo for carrying, and shoot Silver Bear at the range. Even the cheap Silver Bear has always gone bang and fed fine, and is surprisingly accurate. It's available in hollowpoint, too. I'm paying $10.50 a box for this stuff, mind you. That's as cheap as handgun ammo gets these days.

I just looked, and .380 ammo isn't much more than Mak ammo these days. They're both ridiculous.

If you're not yet, get into reloading. For 9mm Makarov alone, it is worth the investment. Figure about $6-8 a box for ammo cost.

If you're really closed to reloading, I have Bersa I might be willing to trade even up for your CZ-82. Drop me a PM if interested.

A couple years ago, I would have chuckled at the idea of carrying a P64... then I actually bought one (when they became C&R eligible).
What a surprise, that's one accurate little pistol! It might not fire the most energetic round, but it will certainly put them where they need to go. Now I carry my P64 in ThunderWear quite often.

As for ammunition availability, I would also recommend simply purchasing them online. Very rarely do I purchase anything at shops anymore as they are obnoxiously marked-up.
There's no shortage of 9x18 out there, with 94gr Silver Bear JHPs running less than $11 a box of 50 (what I use in my P64 and worked fine from my CZ-82 as well).

what in the world are you talking about? 9x18 is still around $10/box online.

Nice bonus to 9x18 is that guns chambered in it can use the cheap steel garbage. I wouldn't run dirty ass Tula through my Sig 238, no way, but I'll run any cheap steel cased stuff there is through my 9x18 guns.

Thanks for all the good info. I'll have to buy in bulk. They have a gun shop around here that sells 9x18, it's just their prices are high i.e. $15. I mean i might as well get 9x19 and shot my Beretta 92. Thanks, again guys. :)

It's the SAME GUN, the only thing different would be that CZ82 would require a gunsmith, or an arbor press and alot of know how, the other is cheaper after you factor the work in...

But why would you mess up a perfectly good 82??
