Hi I'm New to this site and would like to say hi. My Name is Bill and I'm form Texas. I just bought a CZ 500 american Rifle and dont knowmuch about it. anyone out there can tell me a little about this rifle.

What a good Rifle Scope and ammo to shoot. My rifle is a .308 cal

thanks Bill :)

CZ makes a fine rifle.

Welcome to THR.

While buying a scope is a very personal matter... Burris remains one of my favorites, along with Leupold.

As far as ammunition, Federal Premium Vital Shok is certainly some of the best off the shelf ammo available. It's a mistake to spend hundreds of dollars on an accurate rifle and scope combo then force feed it the cheapest ammo known to man. I prefer the 165 grain Sierra Game king bullet for deer and elk but the Barnes x bullet is a fine choice too.

Avoid WOLF and other such Russian import ammo, it's not loaded with much consistancy.

Excellent choice in rifles. I have one in 6.5x55mm. I like the extra barrel length (23.6"). Not only does it give 30-100fps extra muzzel velocity (depending on caliber, ammo, etc) compared to the more typical 22" tubes, but it also seems to help the rifle balance a little better with that extra weight out front.

As to scopes, any of Burris, Leupold, Nikon, etc will have their proponents, and with good reason. I have a Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 on mine. Not as nice as those other brands, but it gets the job done. Eventually I'll upgrade.

Can't tell you much about ammo, since I don't own a .308, but Dr Rob gives good advise on that front.

I have onein .270 Win and it is a shootin' machine,. I have been very pleased with it. My issue was getting good scope rings. I chose Warne because of the price and the fact they are extremely well built but I hear Talley makes good rings too.

It wears a Leupold 3X9

Make sure you read and understand the owner's manual, especially how to operate the single set trigger. The manual also covers how to adjust the trigger weight, and take-up.

I think the 550 is one of the best deals out there right now.

Let us know how it shoots!

550 CZ Rifle

Dr. Rob I think I'll get the Burris rifle Scope in 3x9x40 and use the federal Ammo for .308. I looked at them on line and the price are good. for texas Dear ,308 i guess is good and maybe a bit of over kill but a well placed shot should do wounders.

Thanks for the information and the welcome to the group. All the replies gave my great information. Good shooting and hunting.

For years I was an advocate of Tasco Scopes.... but Tasco went through a bankruptcy and is now produced by another company.

There is a wide margin between 'cheap' and 'inexpensive'... Nikon seems to be a new favorite but Burris is a Colorado company, and I don't mind spending a few dollars in my back yard.

be sure to give us a range report with your new rig!
