I'm "That" close to ordering a CZ Hammer Coach shotgun... it's about $300 more than the Cimarron coachgun I wanted, but CZ has a good reputation for weapons being relatively affordable and very well made. *You ever see one of their coach guns? Beautiful!

I know their coach gun is made in Turkey, but I assume with CZ's reputation, they aren't allowing 'trash' to have their name on it.

What you all think?!?!

I'm thinking hard about getting one also. Anyone out there have hands-on experience with one? How does it compare to the Cimarron/TTN's?

Whiel I've not had the opportunity to actually fire one, they seem to be very well made. The TTN/Cimarron are Polytech guns (Chinese). Rough fit and finish, chunky.

Wow, this thread got brought back from the grave!

Still haven't gotten 'my' CZ... still wanting one though. I've kept doing my research on SxS shotguns, and there's not many bad things I've found about the CZ... actually, none that I can think of. In the past, the Turkish company (Huuglu, sp?) that makes these weapons had issues, but that has seemed to have faded quickly, and CZ's name was not on the guns with issues.

It costs more than the Cimarrons, etc., but after inspecting one a month or so ago, I can say that the CZ is a BEAUTIFUL weapon... and I don't label guns as such unless its deserved.

The action was stiff (I was probably the only person to break it open since it arrived at the gun store) and it was hanging on a rack above all the other shotguns in the store... practically a display model. I saw it and my mouth dropped.

The case hardened receiver APPEARED to have been done about as nicely as a Colt single action army's case hardening... the blueing was also smooth and even. The wood? Real nice!

I MUST HAVE ONE!

That's good stuff to know. The only coach guns I've actually handled in the stores have been the cheapy ones, the Stoegers and I think a Charles Daly. The Stoegers look nice from a distance, but doing a little research on here the folks that get a thousand or more shots out of them have experienced multiple issues. I don't think I've found a thread on here where someone actually has purchased and reviewed the CZ coach gun, but as far as CZ goes, they only get glowing reviews. I think my next couple of gun purchases will be CZ's. Hearing about people's experiences with them on here is nice, since no gun shops around me keep much CZ stuff on hand, so when I'm ready to pull the trigger (pun intended) I'll have to have them order it sight unseen

Case coloring can be done with an acid wash as well, which, IIRC, the CZ has. They are made by Huglu and have a spotty reputation regarding quality - some come out good, some do not. Do not confuse the quality of the CZ handguns/rifles with the shotguns - those are built to a price point. Basically, some swear by them and some swear at them....

I'm very impressed by them. I have an Old Baikal that I just love (not the hammer version). I carry if for hiking in bear country here in Kodiak and I don't worry because it's built like a T-34 tank.

Still, it's limited to 2 3/4 inch shells, which is not a big issue at the ranges were a talking about, but still - ideally you'd want the 3" shells. This CZ is the only coach gun I'd even consider for replacing my Baikal.

What are the current street prices for the CZ? And do you think once the novelty wears off, the prices will drop?

Kodiak... Just caught on that you posted...

I think the prices are stable on these nice weapons. Can't find a used one, if that's an indication of their 'value'.

I got to handle a Rossi coach gun today... Nice, but nothing like the cz. I'm about ready to open a new credit card and get me this cz, the colt saa I've wanted and the redhawk in 45 colt to round things off...

Of course then there's the springfield squad scout! Lol

The CZ reps I have talked to about them have waxed elequent about the Coach gun, and this is from non-shotgun people. I haven't handled one, but would love to shoot one sometime.

Edit for spelling

I was in Turkey for a few months bout 6 years ago. I remember you could buy the turkish over and unders and double barrels for 175-400 dollar range wish i would have bought one. I remember most double barrels ran bout 200 dollars. I was told second hand that some turkish shotguns had to soft of firing pins but overall quality was good and perhaps the firing pins have been corrected over time.

Well I was never as close to buying a cz hammer coach as I thought! Lol. I still don't have one.

However...

Local shop had a parking lot sale and show. CZ was there.

Handled some of their weapons and Ill tell you what... Their long guns are really friggin nice folks! Real nice! Handled a ringneck and their over under plus some rifles. Wood and metal: gorgeous. Fit and finish: just grand!

For the price... If the things function like most say, You can't go wrong with their products, IMO.

I was literally taken back by how nice their stuff was.

Not to hijack, but I handled a Stoeger Coach Gun at the gun show today. (I hear good things about them). All I could say is, "Man, is this thing HEAVY!"

The stoeger I held seemed heavier than the cz hammer coach... But I handled them months apart... Either way, 2 barrels are gonna tack on some lbs.

I'm "addicted" to certain firearms:

1. Colt 1911
2. Colt Single Action Army
3. Coach guns (CZ particularly).

So getting to mess around with one of it's cousins today was a treat. The sxs guns just feel properly weighted, even if on the heavy side, that weight still feels just right. Any lighter or heavier would diminsh the gun's feel and swing.

I thought that CZ stopped importing the double barrel shotguns. A while back CDNN was selling them at closeout prices.

I recently purchased an EMF 1878 which is the same, I believe, as the Cimarron or TTN hammered coach guns. I like it a lot. Nice walnut stocks, cylinder bore barrels (left and right), no tang safety or crossbolt safety, reputedly good steel, three inch chambers, all blued. It's a nice looking gun, though the CZ's I've seen really are beautiful. The EMFs, however, are h-e-a-v-y, around 8 pounds. I've been tempted to try to find one with 26 inch barrels and chokes for upland use but I read that those are 9 pounds , not really what I want to carry around for hours.

My Spartan/Baikal hammerless is much handier at around 6 3/4-7 pounds, though it only accepts 2 3/4 inch shells.

I always wanted a real 1878 clone, however, and now I have one and am glad.

Bumping this thread, still waiting to hear if anyone actually owns one that can let us know about it...

I don't own one, but I did work with one a while back.
I thought it was nicely done.

Hadn't looked in quite a while but just went to CZ-USA's website and they're still there. That hammered "classic" with 30 inch barrels looks pretty interesting and might be in my upland future ;).
