CZ questions

Hi all.

I currently have a full size Para 1911 (7.45) that I carry for every day concealment. I am now coming to the decision that I am tired of carrying a full size 1911 and would like to try something smaller. I have pretty much made up my mind on my purchasing a CZ. However, I have some questions I'm hoping you guys can help me with.

I am looking at the CZ 2075 RAMI, the CZ P-01 or the CZ 75 Compact (40 S&W). I haven't been able to handle any of these guns as of yet but I will be doing so today after work. That being said my questions are:

1) CZ P-01 -- How "compact" is this pistol (for example when compared to the 1911)

2) I am really leaning toward the CZ 75 Compact but I am reading about some really bad reliability issues with this gun, especially concerning FTF's and FTE's. Obviously, since this is going to be my carry piece reliability is my main concern. Any opinions regarding said issues?

3) I really like the ability of carrying cocked and locked with my 1911. It appears that is not possible with the P-01 as it uses a decocker. I would assume that means the P-01 can only be carried with hammer down meaning the first trigger pull will always be double action only. Is that correct?

4) Customer service with CZ seems to be non-existent. Can anyone elaborate or have any first hand experience?

The P-01 is the same size as a Glock 19.

The P-01 isn't all that big, the PCR (sibling) feels pretty good in my hand, the shortest possible grip that still allows a full hold on it. Great pistols.

Reliability issues from a CZ?? Heresy!! My next pistol will be the PCR. I prefer the decocker.

Own a bunch of guns (CZs, S&W, Sig, FNP, etc)... and my P-01 is my BEST SHOOT!!! Great quality, great ergonomics (fits like a glove) and along with my SIG P229, is my most accurate gun!

The p-01 feels nice in my hand. It's about as small a grip as you can go and still feel sturdy on it.
The slide length on it will feel very short in comparison to your Para and the overall weight, even with a loaded 14rd mag, will feel lighter than your 1911.

The P-01 only comes in da/sa with a decocker. So you will have to carry it hammer down in DA mode. Or if you want you can carry it cocked, just not locked.

My brother has a P-01 and loves it. It's been nothing but reliable, and accurate. It did take about 1000 dry-fires with a snap cap to get the trigger to feel good though.

I've heard that CZ has pretty decent customer service, but I haven't heard many people that have had to use it.

However I had heard of people having problems with the smaller CZs in .40. But everything in 9mm runs like a champion.

The RAMI is too small for me. I don't like the way the grip feels. But the 75 compact comes in 9mm and is an awesome gun.
Great feeling grip. Otherwise small in every other aspect. And with a manual thumb safety, can be carried cocked and locked

I'd say, handle all of them. But I like the cz 75 compact for your choices.

I had heard of people having problems with the smaller CZs in .40. But everything in 9mm runs like a champion.

This mirrors what I have heard as well. My own experience so far has been that every CZ I've shot has run like a sewing machine, smooth, consistent, and precise.

If this helps, the P-01, PCR and 75 Compact are the same size as a SIG P225/228/229, and fit in some of the same holsters.

I just bought a 75 Compact (in 9mm however). I have only run about 100 rounds through it without a single problem. I, too, prefer carrying cocked & locked.

Don't forget the P-06, the nice new P-01 in .40.........

For me the RAMI-P I have is neat, small, light enough and I find very comfortable.

If the grip feels short, get a couple of the 14 round magazines, fill the hand nicely.

Well, I finally went to the store to handle what they had, which wasn't much: CZ 75 SP-01 and the CZ 2075 RAMI 9MM.

The SP-01 is just too big for concealed carry; not really any difference between it and my 1911 which I carry now. I did handle it and liked the feel of it but is just too big.
The CZ 2075 RAMI, on the other hand is just too small for me. I don't have big hands by any means but the gun just didn't feel right when I griped it.

So now I need to find a place that has a CZ P-01 and a CZ 75 Compact. Not many places around here so my options are limited. Any one in or around Charlotte know of a place that might have some in stock? I tried Shooters Express in Belmont with no luck. Lake Norman Sporting Arms in Cornelius is definitely out of the question-I will not patronize that place.

You have to try the PCR--it is basically a P01 with a bit less bulk.

It seems to me that the PCR is clearly preferable to the 75 Compact if your goal is CC.

I've sent my CZ97 back twice. First time due to the mag falling out of the mag well, the second due to FTF (which turned out to be the fault of my reloads).

Both times the turnaround was within a month. Also, they were willing to spring for shipping to and from the repair depot.

I have had zero issues with any CZ, and we have a few...




The grip on the Compact/PCR/P01 are identical. The differances are Compact is steel frame, with frame mounted safety, no decocker. PCR is cast alloy frame, decocker, loaded chamber indicator, Novak style sightsd. P01 is same as PCR with three differances, standard sights, forged alloy frame, and M3 rail.
That's it. We've have/had several PCRs, nary an issue with any of them, and my P01 has only choked on my first time bad reloads, before I really knew what OAL meant. Not one oops on factory ammo.
Grab hold, and see how it feels. Go from there. We did.

If you're a 1911 fan, take a good hard look at the Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail. It's a CZ product now. I bought a factory "blem" (it has a tiny dot on the frame, next to the grip panel) and it was under $750 out the door (yes, it has tritium and all of the good stuff the non-blems come with). It's a fine 1911 and conceals better than a regular 1911 due to it's commander slide and bobbed grip.

Of course, there's a lot to be said for the P01/PCR models. They're lighter and smaller... but if you're a 45 single-action-only person looking to "downsize without compromise" and are interested in CZ, the CBOB is a great choice.

You won't go wrong with any CZ platform. Even with the price increases due to their newfound popularity and the crashing dollar, CZ's are still a great value.

I have the Rami. Like the size for cc. I thing the P01 or PCR as noted is probably the best all around gun for the money. Will fit most hands like a glove. Thinking of getting one to add to my CZ stable. So far have the Rami and SP01.
