Allen Wayne Damron will appear at Roanoke Community Center at 7:00 p.m. Saturday 26 July. Address 312 S. Walnut, just off US Hwy 377. Admission is free.

Allen is a fine performer - - You could call him a folk singer. He is Second Amendment activist and a true friend of all who love freedom. CHL Instructor, hunting guide, entertainer, musician, singer, songwriter, poet, teacher, race driver, dog sled musher, husband to the incomparable Marie, and a swell ballroom dancer to boot.

I’ve asked him to be sure and include “Come and Take It†and possibly “Gringo Pistolero†on the set list. See

Disclaimer: I have no commercial interest. Allen is a long time friend of Art Eatman’s and mine.

Best,
Johnny

"The Renaisance Man yet lives."

David, it would be hard to explain how MUCH of a renaissance man he really is.

In the space of an hour, I’ve watched Allen play classical Spanish guitar, plinky banjo, and Lakota flute; elicit side-splitting laughter, tears of nostalgia and pity, and chest swelling pride in the human spirit; and discuss the relative merits of various firearms.

Allen worked his way through college at the cotton gin in Raymondville, guiding hunters in season. He taught public school, sang songs and marched for civil rights in the 'sixties and testifies for RKBA at every turn. He ran a night club in Austin and co-founded the Kerrville Folk Festival. He has battled ultra liberals and bigots and political correctness and gut-eatin' cancer with equal fervor.

One could go on . . . .

Best,
Johnny

THAT'S the word!

"Troubadour." Yeah, exactly. Thanks, Art.

As to mechanical skills, I agree. For all Allen's talents, changing an instrument string in the middle of a concert is about it. I've been teaching him about detail stripping the 1911-type for about ten years now. Some things you gotta take slow. But then, he's long since given up on trying to teach me anything about playing a guitar. :p

Anybody in the area interested?

Any THR members from the area thinking about going? Roanoke is easy to reach from Fort Worth, Dallas, or surrounding area. Hwy 114 and US 377 cross there.

I'd like to meet the local crowd. I'll be the tallish old bald guy with glasses. Perhaps we could plan a THR gathering in near future.

Best,
Johnny

Good question, SJ - - -

It is not a courthouse and they don't sell much, if any, alcohol. As far as I know, it's fine.

Best,
Johnny

Coincidently, I wrote the info. down on a piece of scratch paper a day or two ago, thinking I might convince The Wife we needed to get over that way. Sounds like a good way to maybe meet some TFLers. I'll make it a point to send a message to a some DCSA CHLers who might also have interest.

Discussed it with the wife; looks like we'll try to make it. See y'all there.
Got to make a fast road trip Friday but we'll be back in time and will be there barring excess fatigue.

Regards,
Rabbit.

I would love to go, but by the time I get off of work, go home, take the kids to the sitter, and drive to Roanoke, everyone else would already be gone. I hope you guys have a good time though.

Johnny - I mentioned this to a mutally known gun guy, (Don L. got a "special" .45 in the works) when he arrived at range late today. Said he can't make it, but gave me his e-mail for future reference. Also said, based upon my suggestion a while back, he's done some lurking at THR. We'll get him signed on yet. ;)

still on for tonight ...

Johnny - ' Guess ya sent to Steve Camp? We've been tryin' to connect for a while too, without much success just yet. Maybe tonight. FWIW, I''ve got the old "Don't Mess with Texas" t-shirt laid out to wear. (Art would be proud. :D )

There'll be a few of us there - - -

Greybeard, I talked with Steve by phone today and he has a family fuction, so wo't be able to come meet Allen.

Cats - - Another time - - - Soon, I hope. Maybe we can engineer a THR event with a bit more notice.

This evening was never contemplated as a "THR Gathering." Allen's performance in the immediate area was just a convenient time for some of us to meet one another.

Thanks to those who replied.

Best,
Johnny
