My Daisy 880 (newer model - plastic receiver) has an issue where after a few shots the barrel, while attached to the plastic front post sight, loosens past the plastic bump underneath that holds it in the metal shroud. Before I knew it was getting loose the front sight and the barrel shot out of the barrel shroud and a small item fell out of the shroud afterwards - which I never recovered from my lawn...

Prior to that, some pellets were jamming and not allowing the bolt to close completely - I was able to fire the chambered pellet by pushing the bolt closed and pulling the trigger... Not sure if a part of the bolt plastic cracked off....?

I am not sure if these are separate issues or related... Any fixes to hold the barrel in? - I would think that it is more than a friction fit into the valve assembly.

Thanks.

The steel barrel is a press fit into the zinc alloy valve body. Usually it's in there pretty tight- tight enough that some heat is often needed to remove the barrel. For whatever reason, your barrel is too loose but you can carefully JB Weld it back into position. I'm tempted to say to use tape to tighten the gap at the muzzle plug/front sight (search for "880 tape mod") so the gun could be reassembled before the epoxy fully cures to assure the barrel is aligned correctly, but I'll leave that up to your judgment as well as defer to the expert advice that will likely be coming soon.

As for what came out along with the barrel, check to see if the magnet is still attached to the end of the bolt probe. It's there to help load BBs and might have gotten knocked loose.

That was what I was wondering... Not sure of how tight the barrel should be. JB Weld is good stuff - glad to know I can use it for this issue too.

It seems the barrel is attached pretty tightly to the front sight - It doesn't wiggle or spin. I'm the second owner... It may have been secured already...? I hope the magnet is all that fell out... I only shoot pellets from this one (I have a Crosman Recruit for BB's).

Thanks for your expertise!

Just to be clear- if the magnet is gone you will want to replace it with a length of music wire or even a trimmed down finishing nail. Reason is, the bolt probe moves the pellet forward until the back end of the pellet is just past the air transfer port. If the bolt probe is too short, the pellet might be partially covering the transfer port and this will kill velocity.

Good luck!
