Daniel Defense H9, reboot of Hudson H9

It will all depend on how the market responds to the Daniel H9. I bought one and I’m actually not sure what it’s supposed to be besides a tribute gun to the H9. It doesn’t look anywhere near as extreme in person as it does in a lot of the online content. It’s nice looking but actually kind of conservative. The trigger is just odd. It looks like a 1911 trigger, but that’s where the similarity stops. The trigger is about 6lbs although feels lighter and is fairly smooth, but the dongle really takes some getting used to. It feels intrusive. The gun shoots ok, but I’ve found it tends to shoot a little low, which is what the Hudson H9 was known for. For $1300 you can buy a 226 or 229 SAO Legion which will blow the H9’s socks off straight out of the box. I know this because I have all three. I’m not saying I don’t like the Daniel H9, but right now it is selling because of the curiosity factor. It will be interesting to see the take on it once all the sponsored Shot Show reviews get replaced by real reviews.

Not without paying Daniel Defense who
Hold the patents and the rights to the Hudson H9.
Agreed, though I did say 'more or less'. Dammit, wish I could find the ad. It reminded me of the Hudson, and it's not clear what aspects of the design are patent protected.

I'm sure it shoots well, but man is it ugly
In person it’s much better looking than a lot of the publicity pics have portrayed it. The slide and dust cover are the same depth as a Sig 226 or an HK VP9. The trigger sitting higher than usual is what gives it the odd look. The finish and color of the gun, which is a dark grey is really nice. I’d like to see some grip options, but I’m sure that will be coming.

Actually, like the looks, the low bore axis...it does look different. I could be interested, if the preliminary results are good.
Give it a good trigger and decent accuracy.

I thought the original H9 would have looked perfect in the holster of an Alliance officer in Firefly. Really interesting, fun design. But I did suspect they would become collectors’ items from the start. Seems like all the good stuff gets canceled too soon. Let’s see what DD does with the second edition.

Glad to hear DD is making the H9 again, I had a Hudson H9 and really liked it although mine also shot low and the big hi viz front sight was fast but not accurate. A great design that just needed some tweaking. And if DD bought the rights to the Hudson H9 and none of the parts are compatible, they did some tweaking.
If you haven't held one you'll be amazed how they got 15 rounds in a grip the width of a 1911.
I'd still have mine but the owner of the LGS that sold me mine put me in touch with a guy who really wanted one bad and we made a trade.

I have an original and I love the look and feel of it. I have the DD on backorder as well and I have handled one.

The original wasn’t “canceled”, they went bankrupt. It also wasn’t “good stuff”, because the accuracy was terrible and the parts quality very subpar: Definitely a cool idea, but poor execution.

I will say the original has a better trigger than the DD release.

I handled one a couple of days ago at my LGS. I have been very, very pleased with Daniel Defense and their line of AR-15s and AR10s, but there was little that impressed me about the H9. The grip feel was so-so in my hand and I tend to favor grips with more palmswell and backstrap contour. The pistol seemed to balance and point well enough, but certainly no better than anything else. The trigger on the sample I handled had a gritty, crunchy takeup followed by about a 6-7lb break. At the listed price of $1400, I saw little value to it. Others will no doubt feel differently due to personal proclivities, and I am sure it would be an accurate and reliable gun, it just didn’t move me in any way.
