Did anyone see the Dateline: To Catch a Predator episode on March 6th? There was a guy on their who had a LOT of guns in the back of his truck that they caught in the course of the show. Of course, all the anti-gun terms started being used when they commented on it. When referring to the hollowpoint ammo, they called them "Armor piercing, cop killer bullets"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hollow points don't pierce armor.

BTW, the guy who owned the truck himself was a cop. I doubt cops try to kill each other or themselves with them. So wouldn't that make them "Taxpayer killer bullets"?

I saw that part of the show only, and I was discouraged that they showed the revolver with rifle ammunition next to it. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but it was misleading for those who know no better.

Also, yeah, the "cop-killer, hollow-point, armor-piercing ammunition" was a bit of a mental stretch for me to believe.

I was also upset to hear that one of the supposed good guys was caught doing a supposed bad guy thing. Makes one wonder.

Yeah, they catch scum bags of all varieties on there...Doctors, lawyers, teachers, cops, you name it...Its unbelievable how many sick SOB's there are out there.

The one I saw, don't think it was the same as yours, they found a written list of guns in his pocket, and the host of the show said something to the effect of: "oh, look here, hes a gun enthusiast too"

Like that was icing on the cake that he liked guns.

You need to be corrected....hollow point=armour piercing

Duh, haven't you learned anything????? :)

Even though the people they're catching are obviously scumbags, for some reason they always feel the need to streatch the truth. They always seem to find things like duct tape, rope, and a shovel, and all the sudden this guy was planning a murder - even though those are perfectly normal things a guy might keep in his truck.

I like the idea of the show, but after watching a couple of the shows it becomes a little boring as far as television goes.

I thought it was intresting that they showed the serial numbers of the guns that they found at the one guys house. They acted like it was stange to have all those weapons, and most the guns on the list were hunting rifles and shotguns.

What is amazing is the fact that there are men in this country who still engage in this type of behavior after several episodes of this show. Besides the fact that they are sick scumbags, have all of them been living in a cave without TV?

It's a rotten show that appeals to the inner sordid prurient giddy feeling that we get when we watch the freshly entrapped bad people get mauled and interogated by the police hidden in the bushes outside. Yes, it sucks me in if I'm scanning past it. And then I hate myself for watching the revolting 'program'. The next step must be the 'two minute hate'.

Remember when NBC had sitcoms--like 'Family Ties' or 'Cosby' during prime time?

I saw that segment and replayed it just to make sure I heard it correctly. In addition to the hollow point, armor piercing bullets, they said:

-He had an arsenal (It looked like 2 AR-15's, a Glock, an 870 with a pistol grip, and a revolver.

-He had 800 rounds of ammo and 6 "clips" with 30 rounds each.

-He had a bunch of porn DVD's.

The detective said he had no business driving around with all those guns and that there was no "legitamate" reason for having them, IIRC. Apparently, he told the police that he needed them for work and had no place to store them at home.

That fact still has me scratching my head in bewilderment.

About a year ago my High School locker partner and SysAdmin at a past job got popped on just such a sting. Thought he was talking to a 14 y/o girl online and set up a meeting for carnal purposes. One would think that having worked in IT all his freaking life, he'd be up on that kind of stuff and at least take pains to ATTEMPT to obscure his ID. But NOOOOOO. The fool used his legal name as his ID in the chat.
I have never heard any "conservative media BS" about guns;
Google some of the older comments by conservative media darling Bill O'Reily. :barf:

I watched that once - and one of the guys had already been caught by dateline before.

He didn't act that smart, unsurprisingly.

I have mixed feelings about the show.

It never attempts to catch, or portray female predators. There are hundreds, if not thousands of stings they've done that aren't shown on TV because there wasn't a prosecution, there wasn't signed consent to release the video, among other things. I find it farfetched that not one female ever made an appearance as the "bad guy". Maybe they're all at schools rather than internet chatrooms.

They use an actual 18 year old during the actual encounter in the sting home...an 18 year old that LOOKS and SOUNDS like a young teen. As much as some people don't want to admit it, its fact that you can find young teenagers that look 18, and late teenagers/early 20's that look much younger. 16/18/etc, there is no magic age in which you can tell in black & white how old every female is.

The age of consent in some states is down at 14, and you can be 13 years old and get married in certain states with judicial and parental approval. I know you have to draw the line somewhere, but I think pedophilia on preschool kids is much different than stupid, dirty old men going after people in their teens. People used to get married and procreate at ages much younger than the typically accepted 17/18 year old range we see today. People used to give away their daughters to older, well off men. That was only several hundred years ago. That was a biological norm for thousands of years, otherwise females wouldn't become fertile or develop until later in life. What we have right now is a societal shift in sexual viewpoints the last several hundred years but it doesn't change the biological for some people with lack of self control.

Also I wonder if any of the cases that never made it to TV fell under issues of entrapment. They never seem to release the chat dialogue they have, only clips that make good soundbytes. Any actual young teens that go out and fish for older men like this in real life need some serious discipline from their parents, if they're even around.

I'm not condoning the actions of the people that get caught because its obviously against the law as under the sting guise-- it's two consenting parties, but one is a minor. I'd rather see justice being focused on those people out there targeting toddlers and infants; those creatures really need to be wiped from the planet.

you talk about catching all types, lawyers, plumbers, doctors, teachers, barbers, and cops.

Thing is, what many people don't like to admit is that the careers we most think would be stalwarts about 'defending the children' are the very ones taht pedophiles are drawn to...priesthood, teacher, pediatrician, daycare provider.

Along the same road, while the vast majority of cops are great standup fellows, if you have a dark souled individual who has no qualm about lying, cheating, and manipulating to get what he wants...guess what, the job of lawman is very appealing to him, provided he was sofar successful in using his skills to avoid blame and prosecution up to this point, and can fake it when around the right people/during testing, etc.

Pinning a badge on a man does not make him a saint, and while many good men choose to pin them on, some devils do as well

Women do not participate in this type of behavior in nearly the numbers that men do. Their sex drive is much less, for starters. I'm not saying that there aren't any sicko women out there, but I guess they do their thing with people in their immediate lives, instead of the internet.

And why do we need to use profane language? This is a family website.

Female sexual predators represent about 10% of all sexual offenders. Though rare, that is still a significant number. I don't know why they don't show them, though the public's reaction to female predators seems different, especially when the female is attractive.

You can visit the website for perverted justice (the group that helps out with the stings) and see the chat logs. The decoy is over 18, but the pervert is told they are 13 and is thinking they will meet a minor. Sorry if I don't feel any sympathy for people that are sexually attracted to children. As you say, it has not been the norm in society to do this for a long time. While I agree that it is not bad as targeting young children, I have treated older kids in prior career and can say that in many cases, what has happened to them is harmful.

I wondered about this also, and did a little research. Apparently women are driven more by the need for a personal relationship in addition to sex, so they're much less likely to go trolling around the chat rooms. Instead, female sexual predators will target kids who are already in their own circle of acquaintances. This is why many of the instances you see are teacher/student cases.

As for the anti-gun statements on the March 6 show, color me surprised that NBC would make that sort of statement when discussing firearms... NOT!!!

Go to the Perverted Justice web site and read the complete chat logs - they're all available. Just a word of warning: THEY ARE NOT WORK SAFE.

There are no entrapment issues. The decoy simply creates a Yahoo (or other) account and sets up the profile as a young teen in AnyCity, USA, then enters a chat room where the subject has nothing to do with sex. It doesn't take long until the perps start the soliciting. The teens don't go around randomly sending messages stating "Hey, I'm 13, wanna have sex?"

FWIW I had similar issues back when I had AOL (hangs head in shame), was in my mid-20's, and still single. I set up my profile as "me" (ok I was stupid) and would get 2-3 IM solicitations daily. Eventually I'd get asked for a picture and I'd send one of me with my AR15. Incredibly they all promptly ended the chat session! And no I wasn't pointing the rifle at the camera when the picture was taken either.

Eventually I got fed up and changed my profile to state that I was a retired male postal worker in my 60's. There are some real sicko's out there.

No, what's AMAZING is the guys who admit to having SEEN THE SHOW, and STILL do what they did.

As far as the anti-gun idiocy, they're "journalists". That's an almost lead pipe cinch guarantee of ignorance, arrogance, and intellectual laziness. A friend's daughter is a junior at Kent State U, majoring in broadcast journalism. When I found out her major, I said to her, "Don't you think you're too smart and too honest for this line of work?"

The question that always comes to my mind is this: are any of these guys actually having other encounters which aren't stakeouts and getting away with it? I mean, c'mon, after two episodes of this show, you'd think people would wise up.
