Dating for Smith and Wesson 38 Special

I inherited a 38 special from my grandfather. He received it from his mother. It has the patent dates Feb 6, 06, Sept 14, 09 and Dec 28, 14. The serial number on the bottom is 368730. Any help would be appreciated.

"Std Catalog of S&W" lists that as a M&P model 1905 4th change, made between 1915 and 1942. Yours is from the early part of the Serno range: 241704-700000. You'll have to interpret the info for yourself unless someone else pipes in with better. HTH

Thanks for the info MutinousDoug. I think I'm going to go through Smith and Wesson's history request procedure once they get the program back up and running.
