About a month a go, I pulled the trigger and ordered a Daniel Defense DDM4 carbine. Now I'm reading about how a mid-length gas system is better and find out that Daniel Defense has just announced a gun but with a middy gas system. So, did I mess up by getting the DDM4 carbine? Are there any particular problems I should expect with a carbine length gas system. It just bothers me that I waited to buy the DDM4 only to find out they came out with a middy version weeks later. I guess I should have known when my dealer told me the DDM4 was on sale. Oh well...

You didn't screw up-- If you are happy with what you bought, then its all good. My first AR I bought (still on layaway) is a Stag 2 M4gery...my second (which I have) is a full length 18" CMMG....Carbines are fine-- just clean them and shoot good ammo-- and they wil llast as long as a normal gun...

Buyers remorse sucks, but I assure you, you got a great shooter...

Enjoy!;)

Honestly I would prefer a mid-length AR (if I were to buy an AR anyway), but you will be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two without really stressing the rifle. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

:)

Don't start second guessing yourself now, you have a fine weapon there. While the carbine is harsher on parts than a mid-length, keep in mind that the carbine gas system is what is currently being used by the Army, and it works. The mid-length may be "better," but carbines are perfectly functional weapons, especially if you get one from a quality manufacturer like Daniel Defense.

I understand the whole buyer's remorse thing, I built a mixmaster BCM/LMT M4gery and then immediately started wondering if I should have built a middie instead. The solution is to make your next AR purchase a midlength. That's what I'm doing at present, I'm gathering the parts for a Noveske Recce build.

Well I appreciate the feedback guys. I really like the gun but it's also reassuring to hear from others regarding carbine gas system I wanted a quality gun and really liked the DD. I guess I'll do like most of you and probably add an 18" mid length gun down the road.
Thanks again.

i'd rather have the middy, but if you got a deal on the carbine, it was probably the right choice.

keep in mind the colt 6920 has carbine gas too

You,re in good shape. There are a butt load of carbines out there doing just fine and shooting thousands of rounds a day, at ranges, for law enforcement, and protecting our freedom.
DD makes one of the most highly regarded ARs available, you made no mistake.
Every configuration is a compromise of sorts and a carbine AR is a great handling weapon that may suit your purpose.
It's all to easy to get caught up in the newest latest and greatest.
IMHO you're GTG.

I'm sure there's a reason why Carbine gas systems are more often used by the better Ar manufacturers. Can't say I've ever had failures I could blame on the gas system length.

DD puts alot of effort into their product. Don't worry about it.

Midlengths tend to be better for people who build guns. They don't have to mess with gas port sizes and you get a better slower burn. Other than that, you have nothing to worry about, DD makes top notch stuff. They build the uppers for SOPMOD II.
