Dedicated .22lr AR-15-22 upper

Anyone familiar with this dedicated .22lr upper.

Does it work well with a RRA Lower? Is is dependable ie Low or no FTL, FTF etc.

Huh. That might explain my issues with the 550 round box of Remington 22 Golden Bullets I picked up at Walmart for $15. I'd been using Aguila 22LR in my CMMG 22LR AR upper and getting 2 or 3 jams per 100 rounds (mostly failure to extract and failure of the bolt to go all the way forward sometimes). I went to the range this afternoon and tried the Remington (it was only 2.5 cents per round). No joy, my rifle seemed to hate that ammo. I had two failures to fire, two failures to extract, 3 or 4 failures to feed, think I had 8 or 10 failures overall out of only 60 or so rounds.

Guess I'll have to find a different brand for that rifle and save the cheap Remington for the wife's 22LR pistol.

Wow. That's on the "high side" for the Tactical Solutions AR-22 upper. I think I got mine for $525 or so.

I built up a Spikes Tactical AR Lower with a Rock River Lower Parts kit and the Tactical Solutions AR-22 Upper. Runs like a champ. My daughter has put many many bricks of Federal Bulk .22 through that gun.

It feeds REALLY WELL. I have had a couple FTE's when I was breaking it in, but since then it's money.

These kits run best with the BULK FEDERAL HIGH VELOCITY or CCI Ammo. You don't want to waste your time or money on REMINGTON. It just won't feed the Remington at ALL. Winchester wildcat is hit or miss.

I've been REALLY happy with that rifle so far. Well, really, my DAUGHTER has been REALLY happy with that rifle so far. And, YES, it really is PINK! (Duracoat has impressed me as well, but that is a topic for another thread.)

If you buy parts that are to spec, it will not matter who's label is engraved on the receivers.

Since CMT/Stag make the uppers/lowers for RRA, and TacSol uses Stag receiver, you will not have any issues.

My TacSol is new to me, but it's built very well. The only caution I would give is make sure you remove the bolt if the upper is removed from the lower. I found out the hard way the other day when my bolt slide out and I had to find all of the pieces to my bolt on the floor. It was not fun trying to locate small parts.

I went with the TacSol M4 because I purchased it for $479 shipped. I heard that Spike's 22 upper is nice as well, but they could not come close to the price I received on the TacSol.

That's an expensive upper. You can get the S&W M&P 15 in 22 LR for less.

You can, BUT my upper isn't made of cheap plastic. I've heard good reviews on the MP 22, but I didn't like the way it feels. To me it feels like a cheap POS not to mention that rifle uses a proprietary mag. BDM mags are the standard for anything AR 22 related.

BDM mags may be the standard, but a Ceiner magazine is a lot more pleasant to load. (I have both.)

I ordered a .22LR upper a while ago from Model 1 Sales. It's about the most reliable .22 semiauto I've ever shot, and far and away the easiest to clean. They're another vendor to check, with a lot of variety and reasonable prices.

I'm very happy with my Spile's Tactical dedicated .22LR upper. It was expensive, but several thousand .22LR rounds later I've forgotten all about that initial pain. The CMMG or Ceiner converisons are much less expensive but then you have potential POA/POI issues, especially if using an Optic.

A cheap red dot works well on the Spike's Tactical upper. I use the Barska M16 Electro sight for about $75 and $20 gunshow UTG folding rear for backup.

On a sidenote to this topic, I was at Walmart this evening and they actually had some Winchester 9mm and some 22LR The 22LR they had though was Winchester Supreme 22LR 1640 FPS 32 grain Plated HP and Winchester Super X 22LR 40 grains High Velocity 1300 FPS.

It seems to me that 1300 FPS for a 40 grain 22LR is a little fast, did they pack extra powder into those two Winchester brands? Has anyone else fired these two in a 22LR AR, and if so are they safe for 22LR ARs?

The mag loader from Christie works well.

The only two dedicated uppers that get good reviews are the TacSol offerings and Spikes. The SW 22 rifle I hear is decent and at an affordable price. I just don't like how it feels like a cheaply made firearm, but owners seem to love them. Avoid the Colt 22 rifle...I hear they are crap.

Nearly ALL of the HP shooters I know use the Conpass Lake Engineering uppers for indoor winter practice and have recieved higher reviews than any other company out there. No offense to the two companies you mentioned but if you go to the National Match US Rifleteams website you will see where the subject is covered in great length by the people who shoot Camp Perry every year.

ONE way you could go, as a third option, to obtain a 'dedicated' AR-style .22, in addition to a SW15 .22 plinker toy, or a .22 upper like Spike's or Model 1, is to just completely dedicate a standard 1 in 9" twist 5.56x45 upper to a conversion kit and call it "my .22". That's what I did. Downsides are that leading gets into the gas tube, etc., and the price is high once you buy both the upper sans BCG and the conversion kit. But the upside (a big one to me), is that the tighter twist barrel will shoot the Aguila SSS 60 gr rounds. It won't FEED them (very well), but it will SHOOT them accurately. AND, it will also both shoot and feed standard .22 rounds.

Whatever else in the world you may do, do NOT buy a Colt/Umarex .22!

I got an A2 with a 16" heavy barrel. It originally went on a lower with an A2 stock, but now it's sitting on an M4-style lower assembly.

If I had it to do over, I might get a flattop with a detachable handle, but I wanted to use it with irons anyway so I figured I'd go with simple and save some money, too.
