I have a Spanish mauser that needs to be rebarreled. I'm going with one of these three. My youngest son (14 yrs old) will be using this gun also. I am a reloader so ammo is not an issue. which would you pick and why?

.257 Roberts
6.5x55 Swede
7x57 Mauser

For both deer and vermin, I'd lean toward the 257 Bob. I have a 7x57. I'm building a 257 Roberts on a Yugo K98 receiver and the barrel should be here tomorrow! :) I'm also building a 6.5x55 swede on a 1893 spanish action. If it's a small-ring action, the swede might be a better choice. It'll probably handle 257 +P loads fine if it ever falls out of your control and someone else is buying the ammo.

They're all more similar than different so any of them would work. 100-110 grain 7x57, 85-100 grain 6.5x55, or 60-75 grain 257 roberts for varmints.

Matt.
