In preparation for the range trip on Saturday where I'll finally be able to shoot my Trench Gun clone, I stocked up on some ammo from Sportsmans Guide, they had some good deals. I picked up 50 rounds of the Winchester rifled slugs for use at one range (they only let you use slugs out of a shotgun) and 50 rounds of Remington Copper plated shot for when I decide to pattern it. I'm odd, I try to hunt with milsurps, just finished working up a load for a scoped Mosin I use for deer, and have been testing a load for a Yugo Mauser... Anyway, I got the box, opened it up and... Well, I don't know if I screwed up or not.

I'm sure I got the length right, 2 3/4ths... But I either wasn't paying attention or just missed it completely where it said magnum.

That's the ammo. Now I know what magnum means in the rifles, and I'm going to "assume" (We all know what happens when you do that right?) it's the same for shotguns. So my n00bie question is:

Is this ammo, Remington Premier® Duplex Magnum Copper-Plated Buffered Turkey Loads safe to shoot out of a standard 12 guage? Or do I have 50 rounds of shotgun shells I can't use?

Thanks in advance

As long as your shotgun accepts 2 3/4" shells, you shouldn't have a problem. Their picture is definitely confusing since it shows 3" shells but the only ones available are 2 3/4 or 3 1/2"

Most often when defining a shotgun shell, "magnum' usually refers to more shot, not necessarily more velocity.
Good luck and shoot safe!

Magnum rifle rounds usually are standard weight projectiles moving faster.

Maggie Numb shotgun rounds have heavier loads moving at the same or slower velocities.

Those rounds WILL work, but recoil is going to be EMPHATIC. I shoot a lot, and only use turkey loads when I have to,using good form, fit, a couple recoil pads and a good anti inflammatory taken in advance.

I suggest using something lighter. A value pack load or a light target load wil do well for starting out.

An ultra lite load like most 7/8 oz will do very well in getting you used to your shotgun.

Enjoy....

Thanks everyone, yeah I've got some assorted round laying around. Slugs and some shot. It's just killing me that the ranges I go too are only open on Sat/Sun. Add to that, one range where only slugs are allowed is 40 minutes, another range where anything goes is 45 miles away and not in the same state. And yeah the recoil is something I'm kinda looking forward too.

My problem is I just jump right into things. I learned to shoot on a .22 chipmunk when I was 7 or 8. Didn't shoot anything until I turned 18 and picked up a yugo Mauser in 8mm. Yeah that was a painful experience. So I'll probably going to do the same thing with this shotgun. I've never fired a shotgun before so I'll probably go to the range, learn my lessons on 25-30 shots and then look into recoil pads and the like. It's kind of like I need to know what it is and how hard it hits in it's normal state before I start reducing and making it comfortable lol.

What they said, but I have a SX2 that is chambered for 3.5 inch shells so I bought 50 of them I still have 48 left. They are BRUTALLLLL!!!!! If you have someone running their mouth about how bad they are slip one of those bad boys in the gun right after a couple of birdshot rounds. They tend to calm down.
