Y'know, sometimes I just rush in when the fool gate lifts. Love my rifle but think I might have overpaid.

Here's what I bought last month: new Remington 700 Police in .308 (built this past July) with the adjustable trigger. RockMount 9-13 bipod, Leupold VX-I 4-12 X 40 matte scope standard duplex. Blackhawn lok-down sling swivels. Out the door $1700. Supposed to be a discount because I waved green.

Sound high?

Asking prices on the internet are roughly $1000 for the rifle and $300 for the VX-I 4-12x40. That's $1300. Not sure of the rings, mounts, bipod and swivels add up to another $400. Real good quality rings & mounts aren't cheap

Are you happy with it? If so, then who cares the cash you paid--- look back on it years down the road and ask yourself it was a good price--

Congrats on your purchase! Oh, and PICTS!!!! :)

Rings are standard Leupold dovetail and a one piece Leupold base. windage.

Yeah, living in California, Southern, you get used to high prices for everything but especially guns. I don't mind paying a bit of a premium because gunshop owners are a hunting season open year-round by the yahoos who think they got world peace figured out right dwon to the hemp sandal, not that there is anything worng with a hemp sandal. This is a State without moderation. Gerrymandered that way.

Yup, I am happy with the gun and thankful for it. Money spend is churning in the wake. What's next is all I'm looking at. But I thought I'd check.

At this point forget about what you paid for it. You can not change history. Just go shoot your new rifle and enjoy.

Going price for a 700P around here is about $1000, the scope about $300. Not sure what the prices on the rest would be but it sounds like you got a sling, bipod, scope base, rings, and sales tax for about $400, so you probably paid the going rate for everything. Post some pics, go shoot it and post the targets.

Take your recipt to the range and use it as a target. If you can shoot eh numbers our in order from left to right, 1-7-0-0, then don't worry about it.

Enjoy and shoot safe.

Right ballpark

That hardware ain't cheap. I wouldn't say you got a steal, but you certainly didn't get ripped off either. If you are happy, then it's worth it and you shouldn't look back.

look, i have done things of that nature before. sometimes, it is hell being frugel. just look at it this way. if you had passed on the deal, how happy would you be right now? would you be kicking yourself in the butt? if you like the rifle, and it shoots good, that that is what really matters. sometimes, you just have to pay what it costs, deal or not. happiness is hard to come by. treat yourself well, and never look back!

Don't know what sales tax is there but if you paid $1700 OTD that means around $1550 before tax here. Not too bad I would guess. The bi-pod would be around $60

You appear to have not only paid to much for a new set up but have got wacked on a used rig. The other major issue is you have a scope that is relatively of little value in long range shooting application.

Asking the value after purchasing.

17. Doesn’t it sound dumb to you to post a topic with the title “I just bought this… what’s it worth?” Um, maybe it’s worth what you paid for it? Or maybe you should have asked before you bought it? Determining the value of any used gun is difficult to impossible. Values can vary wildly from one region to another and there are many variables such as condition, presence of the original box, etc. In 40+ years of gun dealing I have gotten good deals; I have gotten OK deals; I have gotten rotten deals. But each time at the of the day I had the gun I wanted so who cares? If you are happy with the gun, don’t worry about the price you paid.

Hell yes we all pay too much. Dont worry in 20 yrs It will seem like A steal. I have been buying Marlin lever actions recently. Wish I had bought them years ago

Saxon Pig and 24Kshooter. Don't know how you read into my post that it was a used rig. It was all NEW out of the box. Bought from a retailer. In fact, you could still smell the Remington factory fragrance when opening the box. I'm very happy with the rig.

When I bought it, I bought it with what information I had at the time. Afterward, looking around this site, I came to feel that perhaps the 700 went for a lot less in other places. So I wondered what the premium was that I might have paid. Real simple. I'm not agonizing over anything.

As for the wrong scope. Well yes, if you want to be academic about it. But it got me in the game and with it, the gun groups under 3 inches at 300 yards when I don't fidget. At 100 yds it gets boring. Eventually I will strap a Hubble with earth rotation software on it so I can be bored at 1500 yards, but I'm still looking for a dealer who will be willing to overcharge me.
