I was wondering what the differences were between the Beretta 390 series (3901 specifically) and the 391 Urika's. I thought I once read that the gas systems were a bit different, and a bit easier to clean on a 390?

I have both, but can't really find enough difference between them to make a case. The biggest difference is the 391 was designed by an ergonomic specialist and an aesthetic specialist, the 390 was designed by gun designers. See, the cable bill and the history channel ARE worth the money LOL:what:

They are different, but exactly how is something I can't tell you 100% with both taken apart on the table in front of me. You want a SWAG? Well, OK, I will take a stab. The changes I see in the 391 are related to cosmetics and manufacturing ease. I work in manufacturing engineering fields, and what I see is a gun that worked great (390) that was put in a sexier package (391) and also they really worked to make things simpler to make (391) than before (390). It looks like the 391 is easier/cheaper to manufacture than the 390 by a bit, just a WAG without the S would be 10-15%? The 391 is cleaner in line, and nice to look at. As far as I can tell you get the same gun for the same money, so pick the one that you like better. To get any deeper gets into differences I perceive that I can't justify so it would just be tech-babble that I simply don't have any documentation to back up. Just a gut feel SWAG from my experience.

Both are fantastic shotguns, proven in real world shooting.
