Other than the obvious cosmetic differences, the 9mm BHP Practical has more weight than the Standard and Mark III. I can't find any specific information on the differences between them.

In the new Hi-Powers what is the difference between Practical, Standard and Mark III?

Edit: Are magazines and parts interchangeable between them?

The practical is listed at a higher weight due to the heavy rubber grips, it weighs the same as any other fixed sight BHP.
Differences in models are primarily in finish, sights, or in the practical the grips, ring hammer, hard chrome lower and slightly different front sight.
They all use the same magazines.
All parts interchange on same caliber models built by FN/Marketed by Browning pistols.
All new pistols in the US are MK IIIs versions with the firing pin safety.
It really boils down to the desired finish and sights and of course availability, which can be somewhat spotty in certain models. They sometimes offer an all hard chrome model too.

Jungle has it right -- the only reason that the Practical weights more is because of those Pachmayr grips :barf:.

The differences w/ the Practical are:
  • Finish
  • A ramp front sight instead of a semi-post
  • A rowel hammer instead of a spur hammer

Here's a rundown of the different models --

MkIII: Matte black finish, semi-post front sight (with white dots), and molded contour grips.
Practical: Matte finished slide, Hard Chrome finished frame, ramp front sight (with white dots), and Pachmayr grips.
Standard: Polished blue finish, semi-post front sight (sights don't have white dots), and French Walnut grips.

Thefumegator, I have to agee about the Pachmayrs, I guess somebody likes them but to me they ruin both the appearance and feel of what is one of the best looking and most ergonomic pistols ever built. They also tend to grab clothing in concealed carry and for that reason aren't very "practical".
