Difference in AR Mag Followers

Can anyone break down the difference in the many followers available in the many different mags available for the AR...

I mean I've seen people debate about different Brands, but inside those brands I see...

Followers in
Green,
Black,
Orange,
Grey,
Red,

etc... etc...

Then I've seen mention of Gen I, Gen II???

If there are more details or differences, what are those too???

I'd like to order maybe 20+ Mags for my ARs, just to have on hand incase some get lost, tweaked, worn out or worse banned...

I figured I'd be best of to do some reading on them before I order a bunch...

Most of what I have now or Geen and a few Grey...

In 30 round magazines, many are using Gen II or III followers by MagPul. It has a website. MagPul makes them in different colors. They have four legs and are designed to be anti-tilt. Many mil-spec aluminum mags now have a green follower, which isn't quite as apt to tilt as older mil-spec followers. More and more magazines are coming out with MagPul followers.

Check out the forums at www.AR15.com and browse at www.midwayusa.com and www.brownells.com. You'll get an idea of the various types of followers and magazines out there.

Take an empty mag. Take your index finger, place it on top of the follower at the front, and push down on the follower.

Now remove your finger. Is the follower all canted and stuck in a goofy position? Or did it slide down the mag and compress the spring without binding? The anti-tilt feature adds two legs up front and prevents it from getting all kinked up like that. Its about the quickest way to verify at least that feature without needing to disassemble the mag.
