I was wondering what the difference was when it came to powders in number... something like a powder may be 236 and another one 244 for example (just making these up don't know if they're real).

Is there a difference in reloading pistols (say 9mm) and rifles?

What would be a good powder to reload a 22-250, a 7mm-08, and a 30-30?

What would be a good powder to reload a 9mm, and a .40?

Thanks for all the help!

One more q, what would happen if say, you loaded a bullet that was too long for oal? What about too short?

I would suggest a loading manual. After reading that,I'm sure the folks here can help you with the"gray areas".

What Matrem said +1.

Pay your dues, Mate. When I started loading, My Uncle Joe gave me a chapter to read and would quiz me on it the next day. When I got done with that book, he would give me another book and so on. You have to be able to basically qoute the book. The basics need to be as clear as Red light means STOP and Green light means GO, du wiess wass ich miene?? Auchtung!!!

Cheers...

There's no correlation between any number in the powder designation and it's use or burn rate. IMR 4064 is faster than 4350, but slower than 4895. H110 is MUCH slower than 231, but equal to 296. They're just names, like Chevrolet, or Johnson.
