Have been away from actively shooting for about 15 years.
Circumstances have prompted me to get my CHL and start practicing again... alot.

At this point, I think I am going with the Dillon 650 and getting it from Brian.

If you are starting over from scratch, for pistol reloading, what would be your complete order be?

What are the have to haves, the nice to haves and the "only a fool should get that" things?

Thanks

John

Id probably get the the 650 you mentioned, scale, a tumbler, media, dies, and components. All my fancy stuff is for rifle. I only have a 550, but for pistol I just tumble, and run em through the Dillon. I'm sure a 650 would work even better if you have the money to buy one, and shoot enough to keep it busy. I'm a fairly slow/careful re loader and I still have no problem cranking out 250 rounds an hour with the 550. This is with looking at everything a bunch to make sure I didn't goof or the machine didn't malfunction, and checking the powder measures throw every 25 rounds ( from what I can tell not needed, but noone ever got hurt being too careful.)

That is assuming you used to reload too and already know how to set stuff up. If not, I might suggest you start with the 550.

Dillon:
Assuming you're just loading one cal; You'll need the machine shipped with the cal conversion, primer flip tray, additional primer tubes. I like the dillon lube, so I would purchase it from dillon also. If you're loading additional cal's, you'll also need the cal conversions and I would get tool heads for each additional cal. If I wanted to start off without spending a lot, I would hold off on nthe case feeder and other additional dillon stuff; it's not needed and you can purchase later.
Plus:
Two quality loading manuals, dies, good balance beam scale, cheep balance beam or digital scale, caliper, tumbler, media and compointants.

Ah yes caliper, I forgot that one... If he purchases from Brianenos, Brian pretty much has everything you need and then some. press wise for one caliber in the "as it should be" kit. If hes only doing pistol, lube isn't necessary, even though I guess some people like it.

Just tell Brian you're starting from scratch. He'll walk you through the process and do you right. Listen to his recommendations.

Yup, that's what I did! The purchase later was less than a month to get the case feeder. Running a 650 WITHOUT a case feeder is like dragging a safe behind your car, or loading with handcuffs on.

Be aware the the 650 is shipped without dies. It simply has the appropriate shell plate and case feeder bushings/buttons and case tube.
