I drove down from PA this weekend to visit my son and grand kids - they live just outside of Richmond (across from the new Gander Mountain actually). I went in and was kinda disappointed. High prices and for reloaders not too good a selection.

I then went down the road to Green Top, a huge sports shop and while they had a great selection of guns and all, I went looking for bulk Remmington bullets for .223. They had Speer, Nosler etc and when I couldn't find them I asked one of the sales people - he told me Remmington doesn't make bulk bullets! Idiot - just tell me they don't stock em', not that they don't make what I've been purchasing from Cabellas, Graff and Midway all along.

So - enjoyed the grand kids - didn't enjoy the shopping - guess it's my local stores and the internet from now on.

Just wanted to vent....:D

More than likely the distributor that the store uses doesn't handle Remington bulk bullets.

Guys, NO store carries EVERY product, and NO salesperson knows EVERYTHING.

Now 14 people will post that we need to boycott something somewhere... 8 will post that they don't like it anyway, and one guy will ask about a good recipe for turkey...

Greentop is like any retail store -- some clerks know what they're talking about and some don't have a clue. I usually look for Joe Hopkins whenever I have a question. Joe's a long time GT employee who I believe is the manager of the gun department. He'll always give you the straight poop.

Greentop may not have exactly what you wanted but compared to other stores in the area they have a much greater selection.

Midway has a long list of Rem bulk .223 bullets. Oh, wait, they're out of stock and no backorders are allowed. Imagine that, a shortage of .223. Seriously, Green Top gets cleaned out as fast as they unload the trucks and stock the shelves.

Example of Midway's site:

Remington Bullets 22 Caliber (224 Diameter) 55 Grain Full Metal Jacket Box of 8000 Free Freight
Product #: 184242
Status: Out of Stock, No Backorder
Our Price: $446.99

John...who loves Green Top. I think I should get a discount as a 30+ year customer. I spent $150 just yesterday morning. I went in for 100 feet of decoy line. Let's see, that was $4. :D

I'm glad to hear that you were able to enjoy some time with your grandkids and your trips to the gun shops didn't spoil it for you. That said, I am suprised to see you vent online about two retailers not having what you want when they are not even your local stores!

Maybe it's just me, but when I travel and visit a gun shop I am not expecting to find anything, I just want to get my gun fix. If I were looking for something specific, like bulk .223 ammo, I'd find it locally or online.

And besides, every gun shop is different and they stock different things to meet the whims of it's customers and it's owner/employees. I am yet to find a perfect gun shop with everything I am looking for. Green Top is not a place to buy ammo, but if you want to get your hands on a new firearm or get some reloading supplies, it's your type of place.

Best of luck finding your ammo.

Kinda reminds me of my ex father-in-law. He would stop at the local Cadillac dealer when he was on vacation, and go through the whole test-drive, price haggle thing (he was one of those guys who never mentioned an amount, he'd write a figure on a piece of paper and slipped it across to the salesman). That guy never did buy a Cadillac, but I bet he haggled 250 'deals'. It was his way of enjoying his vacations, I guess...
