I was recently given some .30-30 brass and roughly 1/3 of the box was discolored......brownish-olive color to be specific.

I tossed it into my vibratory tumbler for ~3 hours with pet store corn cob and a dash of Nu Finish and then seperated the media and inspected.

At this point the discolored brass was starting to "shiny up" with about ~1/2 of the case still splotched with discoloring.

Any opinions on using this brass?

I'm pushing 150 gr. jacketed bullets with ~34 gr. of W748.

As long as it is dis-coloration and not corrosion I use it all the time. Of course that is with all other overly high pressure signs being absent.

If coloring is the only issue, than I don't think you have a problem.

Take a case and try polishing it by hand (at least some of it). It should polish up just fine. So you could add more NuFinish and tumble them some more, or use them as they are.

Sounds like it's brass that's gotten wet or picked up from an outdoor range. Don't sweat it and use it. It may not shine up to "new" but it'll be good enough to use.

regards,

Dave
