Do I need to oil the inside of the bore ?

Hi everyone my name is Edwin,
& I'm new here.
It takes too much time to clean the bore after spend few round at the range with oiled bore,
but I notice when shooting dry bore without any oil takes less time cleaning after shooting,
Glock doesn't require to oil the inside of the bore but what about other guns,
like Beretta 92 like some other non coating Barrel ?
I like shooting part but not the cleaning part.

Hello Edwin,

The main purpose of putting a light coat of oil in the bore is for corrosion resistance. I would particularly recommend it if your gun will st unused for a significant amount of time. I recommend that you run an oil soaked patch through the bore, then run several dry patches through to remove as much excess oil as possible.

Too much oil in the bore can be dangerous because it can lead to overpressure conditions when a bullet goes down the barrel. Just stick to a very light coat and you will be fine. You can even skip oiling the bore and probably have no problems. I'm just very picky about cleaning my guns

Tone, swabbing a very lightly oiled patch down the barrel you've just scrubbed doesn't really add too much time to your cleaning regimen. Not only does it keep a lot of newer fouling and residue out of the bore, but it also keeps the bore protected when not in use. It doesn't really serve as a bullet lubricant.

well, I don't know about the Beretta and such needing an oiled bore.

Personally, I clean all of my guns, every time I shoot them. It's just a ritual I was raised with and something I like doing. I don't do a full detail clean, but I hose down the big parts and the barrel gets cleaned and oiled.

Honestly, cleaning my guns is just another way for me to fondle them and spend a little time winding down after a day at the range. and, proper care for guns is the reason I have guns 4.5 times older than myself, and still in beautiful, but shooting, condition.

I've tried, it still comes out dirty when I use reg. patch after I use that snake.

What kind of bore solvent are you using?

The snake is good for cleaning up excess oil and loose debris. I use it at the end of a complete cleaning. There should be no visible oil in any firearm's bore. You can run an oiled patch through, or a patch with CLP on it, but it should not leave anything but a shiny clean surface.

Any barrel made of chrome-moly steel will rust if not protected from moisture.
Stainless steel barrels will usually go a little longer if there is NO other metal (like copper jacket smears) present.
Exposure to salt air will corrode even stainless in short order.

A light film of oil solves the problem.
If you can see oil on the surface there is probably too much.

I oil the bores every time before putting them away, and run a dry patch through them before shooting again.
