I’m not very sentimental about gear, even though I have some items that I’ve carried for years. I’d be disappointed if they were lost or wore out but not heartbroken; it’s just stuff.
The only exception is my first firearm, a Mossberg 500 12 gauge combo my wife bought for me early in our marriage. It accompanied me on many outings with my father-in-law, who taught me to hunt. It has taken more game than any other of my guns. My FIL died a few years ago and I think of and am thankful for him (and my wife) every time I handle the Mossberg.
Dad's rifle, Dad's Flintlock, Dad's compass, Dad's antler handle knife, and the crackerjack's whistle the took from me at age 4.....I use the first three, as needed.
The first rifle I bought brand new is also the rifle I shot my first buck with, my largest buck with, my nephew shot his first buck with, and the first gun I learned to reload for. Me and that rifle have been through a lot together.
