Do you keep an inventory record of your knives?

I keep a spreadsheet to track my guns by make, model, serial number, and other assorted details. I do this in the event of theft, but also in the event of my untimely death. It’ll help sort things out with the authorities in either scenario.

Now that I have a few serialized knives of nice quality, why not add a second page for the knives?

Many of my knives are beaters so they won’t go on the list, but the more expensive ones, I’d like to keep track of.

Just curious if anyone else does this for their personally owned knives. Maybe for insurance purposes?

I own no serialized knives. For knives I get stuff I am not afraid to use. For knife collectrs it is maybe worth doing just to.keep track of you collection.

I have more like an assortment rhan a collection. I doubt I have more than a dozen or two knives other than kitchen utensils.

I keep a video record, much easier than a spreadsheet and more a trip down memory lane, for insurance purposes. I update it and send the link to my insurance agent when something of significant value is added to the collection.
Yup, my insurance agent turned us onto video recordings a few years ago.

There are still some items that get *scheduled* individually on paper but that's usually if a specific appraisal is involved.

Todd.

I keep a spreadsheet that contains information about all my shotguns, rifles, and handguns.
l also keep a spreadsheet of all my knives. A few are numbered (1 of 2500, 1 of 3000) but most are just knives but I keep a record of them anyway.

Good idea! I have numerous copies of my gun collection (manufacturer, model designation, serial number, etc.), as well as digital recordings and photos on my laptop but don't really have anything on record about my knives. Mainly because I don't really have that many that I would consider high end or highly collectible. Should probably have at least a list of them on record somewhere as no one else is going to really know a thing about them!

Nothing for knives, but then again, I don't have much tied up in them. I do have a program on my Ipad for firearms inventory. It is up to date.

I do actually carry these knives and use them nearly every day for this or that, despite their cost. None of them are customs, they are just made from really good materials. I'd call mine an assortment also. I'm not a collector, just a knife user who likes nice knives.

Plenty of beaters around though too. There's some knives I beat on and just don't care.

Yeah I thought it wouldn't hurt. I mean I already had a spreadsheet built for my guns, so copying it and modifying it to incorporate the data I want to remember seemed a good idea.

I've hit the age where my own mortality is more of a thing I pay attention to. Not because of my health or anything, but just because I actually have assets I think someone would want if I did get myself killed. I plan to get my life organized, then sit down and come up with a bulletized list of goods to be willed to particular people. Then go see a lawyer about an actual will. Seems my nice pocket knives might be something someone would want some day. Or they may want to resell them. Either way, being organized is a good thing.

I think the same thing everyday! Really got to be organized if you're trying to get anything done in a reasonable amount of time and effort!

I have one for my firearms, but I try not to look at it much because I'll gag on how much $$$ I've thrown at them!
I'd be worse if I have to consider how much my knives have cost me...ignorance is bliss.
