Does anyone have any experience with Accuracy Systems rifles?

Does anyone have any experience with Accuracy Systems' 6.5 Grendel rifles?

I've got a huge infatuation going on with the 6.5 Grendel set up in a long range rifle configuration. (Please don't make this into a .223 vs 308 vs 6.8 SPC vs 6.5G arguement...let's leave the caliber wars out of it.)

While I want to make sure I build up an accurate rifle, my gun budget isn't unlimited...I need to balance cost with accuracy. Most likely I will assemble the rifle from components or sub-assemblies vs. a complete rifle.

I've looked into the available uppers/components, e.g., Alexander, Sabre, Competition Sports barrel/bolts, Satern barrels. The AA/Sabre/etc uppers all seem to run in the $950-1200 range. I also ran across Accuracy Systems. The only time I've ever heard of them is the Mini14 accuracy conversions they've done.

Accuracy Systems lists that they do uppers and complete AR rifles in 6.5 Grendel and the price is in the $800-900 range for their uppers...so the question is does anyone have any experience with them in general or specifically on their work on 6.5G on an AR platform?

In case you're interested, the basic rifle specs I want are:

• Good quality lower (prolly Stag or other similar)
• Good quality trigger (will probably go with an RRA NM...I've have good experience with them)
• 22-24" match upper, free float handguard, target crowned barrel
• Adjustable stock like the Magpul Precision of CAA SRS

This will be a multi-purpose rifle...it will be my own personal DMR rifle as well as doing multi duty as a varmit, antelope, deer rifle when applicable. The 6.5G cartridge seems very capable for these more long range roles.

He did some excellent work for me and turnaround was less than a month. Price was good too.

Accuracy Systems:
I had "the works" on a mini-14 from Accuracy Systems. Work was very good, details were not, and it was expensive. My real bitch was details. Pillar bedding screw heads interfered with the bolt, bedding pillars were not firmly epoxied in place as advertised, barrel in front of gas block was supposed to be .750 dia actually was .920 dia. and gun had obviously not been test fired even once (extra cost item I later discovered).

Would I use them again; maybe, but only for things where they had special expertise. If the work included fire control parts I would insist they; do it, test fire it at least for function, document it, and not charge me for it.

What kind of a gunsmith re barrels a gun, does a trigger job on it, blueprints the action and never test fires it. I'll tell you what kind: one I hope I don't have to use again.

Am I unreasonable? I don't think so. Why didn't I send the gun back for corrections? After I spoke with the owner (whose name I am intentionally omitting) and was quoted prices for the "extra work" I decided I was better off to fix it myself and settle for the nose heavy barrel. I just mounted a heavier scope and ended up with a mini-14 bull gun which shoots very well but now occupies a place in my collection I never intended to fill.

If I were to have work done by ANY shop in the future I would make a "punch list" of the individual
items we agreed on with a place beside each one for a signature and a date stating: "this work has been finished, inspected and accepted by me on this day". If the shop would not agree to such a list I would find another shop. This kind of QC is common in the kind of manufacturing I did for 30yrs.

No experience at all with that company but I do have a Stag lower. You might want to shoot the rifle with the stock Stag trigger, mine is actually pretty nice!

I think they cost a fortune.

My dream guns are a Nesika Bay in .223REM and a brother to it in 300WSM. I have a 300WSM target gun in a Montana Rifle Company action that shoots 1/2-moa with a cheap scope. Look out when I put a good piece of glass on it...
