Does cold steel need to get rid of their brand name off it's self defence products?

For example if you walk around with a sharkie pen and you use it or whatever on someone it is much worse the fact it has a picture of a shark, has the word sharkie on it and also teh cold steel brand name.

It would look more law abiding if it was just a plain pen with no brand name rather than one upon some inspecition looks like a deliberate self defence item which in a lot of bolshevic places is the main crime carrying a weapon specifically for self defence.

I mean rather than pretending it was a regular no name pen.

Welcome to THR coldname!

Instead of using the CS Sharkie, you can Sharpie brand Chisel-Tip, King Size and Magnum sized markers. They'll do the same thing as CS, and won't look as ridiculous.

Have a zebra pen. 2mm thick body, $7, $3 for 2 refills, super smooth writing.

And in court the only thing they could say was " he used a pen, he obviously is mental" Not anything like "this "sharkie" was MADE for killing people"

I do think that disguised weapons are a bad idea.

It suggests that weapons for self defence are not acceptable and NEED to be disguised. This attitude is only made worse by products like these.

Welcome to THR.

I agree that disguising self defence weapons implies that they are not acceptable. The problem is that in many situations and to many people they aren't acceptable and sometimes are offensive. I don't like that it is that way, but there's a limited amount that I can do about it. There are a lot of situations where I would prefer to carry something covert and innocuous rather than spend a large amount of time trying to re-educate someone who has no intention of listening. I place a very high value on spending the time to educate those around me (Education is essentially what I do for a living), but there are circumstances where someone has a concrete mind (all mixed up and permanently set). A rational discussion in which both parties are willing to listen and learn is wonderful. A heated debate where both parties are passionate and antagonistic about the subject, others are liable to jump in, no one is listening and no one is willing to learn is ridiculous. I have been involved in these types of "dorm room" discussions before, but I'm ashamed to admit it. Nothing was accomplished other than time being wasted. I would rather simply get the job done and avoid the issue under those circumstances. I will do my best to vote, represent, and advocate change in these areas, but where personal discussions are concerned I've learned to be very careful who I speak with.

Also, I am going to be moving soon to a country where the law enforcement takes a very dim view of carrying any kind of recognized weapon so I will definitely be carrying a pen or a marker at all times.

I've seen this argument applied to ammo quite a bit. Your innocuous pistol loaded with WWB fares better in court than the same pistol loaded with Extreme Terminator Pit Bull ammo.

I've never heard about this actually happening, but the theory that a jury would be less sympathetic to someone with a weapon marketed as particularly lethal says to me better to err on the side of safety and go with the regular Sharpie.

particularly lethal

The sharkey? :)

I see where you're coming from though. What you're getting is a substandard marker in a more ergonomic package. Might as well get a really really big marker in that same ergonomic package (for $5 less).

Shoot, I'd be more afraid of being labeled a mall ninja. Try picking up a girl at a bar when the news finds out about your Assault Marker.
