Did anyone see Good Morning America today? At the beginning of the show they announced a live appearance by the dog-killing Cookeville (TN) PD officer who shot a family dog during a traffic stop. I didn't get to see his comments -- had to go to work -- but I'm interested in whether he had anything useful to say, or if was 100 percent CYA stuff.

By the way, they showed the segment of the video where the tail-wagging dog gets blasted. I endured much more severe dog "attacks" than that when I was a paperboy in the sixth grade.

I didn't see it on GMA, but I did see it on the Today Show. It's pretty disturbing footage to say the least. You can see the dog wagging its tail, but you also see him backing away from the dog and it still comming up to him before he fired the shot. I know that a lot of people are saying bad things about this shooting, but I'm not so sure I wouldn't do the same thing.

His comments seemed genuine about the whole incident. He said that after shooting the dog, that the THP told him that they had mistakenly pulled the family over and that it was just a misunderstanding. He also said how he showed up as back up for a felony stop and that he only knew when he pulled up that they were suspected of robery. The segment went into how the guy that was stopped had a rap sheet for about 8 or 9 arrests, blah blah. Then they went into how he's been receiving death threats on his and his family's lives. They did also mention that he has been involved with 2 other incidents where he has shot a dog in the line of duty.

I don't know how all of this should play out, but its not so cut and dry if you ask me. But then again that's just my opinion and I haven't been following this too closely, and I'm sure not to just go by what I've seen on NBC! I'm sure it will be on one of those primetime magazine shows like Dateline and the like, so you'll be able to see more about it there.
