Doing anything different while reloading just because of 'Current Events?'

Shooting and Reloading are a BIG part of my 'unwind time'.

My Range has closed due to the 'Current Events' (So sick of the C-word I don't even want to type it!!!!)

I have plenty of components to assemble, but when you can't 'unload' any of the stack of stuff you've already reloaded, the desire to produce a bigger stack just isn't as strong.

But I still crave my unwind time,,, More now than ever, perhaps.

So,,,

Am I the only one doing things a bit differently in the reload room, just to occupy the time/free my mind?

Examples:

I'm de-capping brass that I normally wouldn't de-cap before wet-tumbling. I'm telling myself 'It won't hurt anything and the p-pockets will be cleaner'. Spent several hours that way.

Ran a couple-thousand 45 ACP brass through my "Bulge-Buster". Not because they really needed it. Just b/c I haven't done it for a loooong time and thought it would be something different.

So, are others doing similar things, or am I just going nucking futs?

(I swear, as soon as I start to think about pulling loads apart just to put them back together again, I'll know for sure that I've passed the point of no return!!!)

Just making the stack bigger. I’m lucky to be able to shoot a little but I’ll turn all my components into finished product pretty soon. Then if this thing does spiral out of control, I’ll start selling some of the factory rounds out of the stack.
It would be cool for me to sell rounds but I'm not selling my reloads and I have zero Factory loads

I'm fortunate enough that I get some casting molds tomorrow. I would go to the range, but I loaned my vehicle to our youngest and it has my gatepass in it. Hope to meet up with it this weekend. :)

Shotgun ammo would be a hot sale. I read somewhere shotguns were the first thing some shops sold out of. Good ol' slow Joe, shotgun salesman. :D

Hi...
Kind of at a standstill reloading wise.
I had an order of bullets to pick up but then the Gov closed his business. So I ordered some online but they haven't shipped and I don't know when they will.
The Gov rescinded the closing of gun shops in Pennsylvania but I spent quite a few hundred dollars on my online bullet order, so I can't pick up my original order until after the first of the month. Paying the price of not being independently wealthy for a few days.

Not to worry...plenty of loaded ammunition on hand. Just can't replace any that I shoot until after the first of the month unless my online order shows up.
Also have large amounts of primers and powder on hand plus lots and lots of processed brass.

My son is picking up a large order of powder , primers and bullets tomorrow from a local shop. He had to order and pay ahead...they are not allowing customers into the shop to browse unless they are picking up an ordered firearm because of the ongoing pandemic hysteria. He has to call when he arrives, they will confirm his order and then bring it out to his vehicle.

Most of the local gunshops are now open only by appointment because of this pandemic... can't just walk in and browse anymore. That will save me some money...I always seem to find something that I need in a gun shop. We do a lot of gun shop tours on the weekends and even when I don't buy a gun, those tours usually cost me a few hundred dollars in reloading tools, powder, bullets, etc.

loaded a couple thousand .38Spl practice rounds for when I can get out to the range again in prep for upcoming matches, if they hold anymore. Loaded 400 rounds of match ammo for the next sanctioned match...played around a bit with the load but need to get out to the range with the Labradar to make sure it makes PF.

I got so bored, I set up my trimmer to trim .38Spl cases for next year's matches

I started to wet tumble 9mm brass to keep busy, but the 55 gallon blue drum of 9mm isn’t going down very much.
Yeah then start sorting them by a headstamp after they've been cleaned
I've already done both of these...but it was only two 5 gallon buckets

Even have 3k loaded again...made a small dent in my stacks of RMR 124gr Matchwinners

I've been shooting more skeet recently than metallic cartridges, but unfortunately my range has shut down for the moment.

I got a Dillon SL900 shot shell reloader at the first of the year. I built a reloading table for it have been loading up 20 ga and 28 ga hulls that I have on hand. Fortunately, I had stocked up on powders, primers shot and wads before the end of the year.

I like the SL900 so I just ordered the 12 ga conversion kit for it. I plan to get it set up and load a bunch of 7/8 oz 12 ga loads. Again, I have powder, primers, shot and wads on hand. I generally shoot 20 ga better at skeet than 12 ga but I recently got a 32" barreled Browning Citori CXS and it handles alot like my 28" tubed Citori so I'll probably shoot more 12 ga. when the range re-opens.

I'll probably do some casting and reloading of metallic cartridges as well during this time of "house arrest". I can do some shooting of handguns out back at home as well.

I’d take some off your hands to help it go down some haha! My 9mm brass stock pile wasn’t very big to begin with!

to keep on track with the thread, I haven’t really done much different. Expand the types of pistol bullets I’d use, am going to be trying some hi tek Coated ones until RMR gets caught up. Got enough once fired brass left to load up about 1k of the coated bullets.

Howdy,
What kinda matches are you using 38 spl in?

How do I get back? Seriously, I pulled apart 50pcs. yesterday to add .3gr of powder and re-seat to a different CBTO. And this is my practice ammo! Are there any support groups out there?

Haven't had time to do much since work is crazy. When I get a nice day, I have a whole bunch of black powder casting to do as I picked up a 45 and a 58. Round balls for those two, plus conicals in 45, 50 and 54. My hunting buddy is finally setting up a reloading bench, so I also would like to cast a bunch of 38 and 9 bullets for him, since I enjoy casting and he will have a tough time getting supplies.

I've also been at at stand still but have been able to get some componets. Range is officially down so haven't been able to go. Been really interested in casting lately and have bought some stuff and the lyman book of casting, so have been reading that.

The first step is to admit we are powerless over our addition! :)
2nd step it to convince yourself it's really no big deal as you were probably going to do it anyway!

I de-capped, sized, primed some 38spl last night. Currently de-capping / wet tumbling a bunch of other calibers. Probably keep me busy all day.

I DO like the idea of expanding my reloading horizons a bit, but I'm having trouble deciding which way to turn.

Not quite sure yet if I want to start reloading shot-shell. My shot-shell needs are very simple/basic and the 20 cent-per-round stuff does all I need it to do.

Add another Caliber? As I already reload for every caliber I own, (only 4) I'd have to buy a firearm to use them in and wait for the Range to reopen.

Neither of these options are inexpensive, and the current firearm/reloading market is a bit stressed right now.

Nope. Working as many hours as before. Hoping to get out to the range soon (belong to a private outdoor range), but the local indoor range is closed.

I did just carry in a 45lb package the mail guy dropped off at the door - not a panic buy - just a little restocking.

Yes. I've been making pistol powder reduced loads for some of my oddball metric rifles that I can shoot in the backyard. I still had some fired brass for these, and have been recycling it regularly with neck sizing only and 10-14gr of unique or Power pistol. Wish I had stocked a lot more of the Speer 100 gr .30 cal plinkers. The Garand and K-31 were especially fun to shoot in this role, but I'm now out of suitable bullets.
