I always thought sub-machine guns, sub-rifles, rifle pistols, or whatever you would want to call guns like Sig 556 and Drako were really intriguing, albeit useless in most real-life situations. Anyhow, I think I am attracted by the coolness factor of these guns and was wondering if anyone here actually "legally" carries one of these guns around with them. This can be in any situation ranging from carrying in the glove box/under the seat of a car to carrying in your briefcase/laptop case to a business meeting, or even the coffee-shop.

One thing that really seems cool about these sub-rifle pistols is that you have a powerful man-stopping round and the ability to carry a considerable amount of rounds in such a small package. I mean considering the size of some of these sub-rifles and the fact they will take any type of mag/drum you can sport in your AR, I think they do have boast of some significant benefits of the self-defense realm. A lot people rag on the sub-rifle guns, like Sig 556 pistol or Drako because of their poor accuracy at longer ranges. My personal belief is these guns have been maligned because the people who purchased these guns expected them to perform on par with regular semi auto rifles with butt stock and 16+ inch barrels. They couldn't believe how inaccurate of a rifle these little stockless guns were. However, I think many of these people are neglecting to realize that they in fact own a pistol, not a rifle. My thoughts are if these guns are treated like pistols, rather than rifles, suddenly the piece of crap gun, now performs quite excellent. I am thinking a Drako or Sig 556 at 15-25 yards might perform quite well and have a lot more stopping power and penetration than a typical handgun round. Also, with the use of ballistic, fragmenting and expanding rounds, a 5.56 can actually be used in an urban environment without risks of over-penetration. Heck, even the 9mm has in many cases reported having over-penetration problems high powered loads. How do some people who own these guns feel about the accuracy at pistol ranges?

I was just wondering if anyone here actually has concealed one of these in any of the situations. I, myself, carry a laptop case around with me, as I am a software developer. Yes, I know its totally silly, but I have always just thought how cool it would be if I could pack a Sig 556 or Drako with a few mags along with my laptop or my backpack, especially when hiking. Considering, these are classified as pistols, I cannot see how they would be illegal under the concealed handgun guidelines of Oregon or any other free state, to carry as any other handgun.

Now, although I think it's really would be intriguing to carry around one of these with me, I do think about the legal implications had I ever needed to use this gun in self-defense or even my side arm in self-defense and then be caught at the time of the shootout with one of these guns on my person. I'm think any gun-hating, liberal DA or human rights (aka bad guy rights) group may use the fact that I had a "powerful rifle/sub machine" on me to vilify and incriminate me.

If anyone packs a sub-rifle pistol of any sort, I'd like to hear your experience. Also, I'd be interested to hear from those with some knowledge of gun laws there thoughts about what would happen or the risks of carrying such a gun on you if you are involved in a defense shooting.

I was actually thinking I would eventually like to purchase a Sig 556 or Drako and carry it in my vehicle. It's always a good feeling to have extra firepower around. I know some may think it is dumb/gung-ho/mall-ninjaish to carry anything more than a pistol on your person. Actually, if it was legal, I'd probably carry an AR with ballistic rounds with me everywhere I go and a sidearm for backup. Sadly, our laws don't coincide with our constitution, so I don't have such liberties.

BTW.. If anyone doesn't mind, please don't post pics of your Sig 556 or Drako in your pistol holder, that is just plain silly and that joke is just getting too old. That is, unless you have a holster that actually fits this gun.. In that case, please post the pic by all means..
