Hello - I'm thinking of picking up either a Doublestar or Stag AR lower in the near future, and later buying an upper, probably from RRA. I'm wondering if the finish of either of the lowers will somewhat match the RRA upper, since they are different manufacturers. For example, I've heard that the DS lowers have a Teflon-like finish. The RRA AR that I current own has more of a matte finish. Not that it has to be a beauty queen, but I'd like the upper and lower to fit and match somewhat. Any opinions on this, based on actual experience? Thanks

The Stag would probably be ok. But I would stay away from the Doublestar. Also I would reconsider the RRA upper.

As for the match.. Suppressing my initial reaction I will just tell you that it is very rare for any anodizing from different batches to match.

Thanks. Good point about different batches not matching, makes sense. Might be a good reason to just buy the whole thing from RRA.
Any particular reason you don't like DS? Just curious, as I am new at this.

not only will they match, they'll work like a champ, the rifle I carry in my patrol car everyday is a Stag lower with an RRA mid-length upper. I Highly reccomend the pairing, though my definition of match is that they pin together, then function, not the cosmetic match..........

I used Krylon to get a pretty good match overall on mine..........

Agreed. Function and fit is more important then cosmetics, although it would be nice if it was "pretty" as well. Glad to hear that your combo fits and functions well. It turns out that the RRA mid-length upper is what I was planning to buy as well. I want a carbine with a mid-length handguard and no sights, and most carbine uppers I've seen come with the short (M4) handguards. RRA makes the config'ed upper I want. I figured I'd save a bit of loot buying the upper and lower separately. BTW, just curious, how was the color match between upper and lower before you camo'ed it? Thanks

they were about the same color wise, I was more than surprised and extremely satisfied once I got the rifle up and running, I wound up removing the fixed front sight and installing an Adams Arms piston conversion, now she runs cool and totally reliablely, though she was completely reliable as a DI gun too.

Nothing wrong with DSC. DSC has been getting good reviews. I have not seen any bad stuff from them. Stag is good to.

I don't care for different finishes. It doesn't matter functionally, but i dont like it. My Sabre lower and Bravo upper finishes don't match. It bothered me at first, but i forgot about it.
