Just received my DPMS upper from Midway today. Start of my first AR build.
I like the looks of the matte black finish, looks like a powdercoat or something similar.
Any comments on how well it holds up to abuse, scratches etc, would be appreciated.

Since the upper housing, rails and other pieces are aluminum, more than likely they are anodized. The barrel, being steel is more than likely black parkerized, it could however have some other kind of coating designed to match the anodizing. Both are very durable.

And to elaborate, the upper itself is hard anodized aluminum. DPMS uses a sealant including teflon, which may or may not matter. It's a pretty tough finish. The barrel is black manganese phosphate (aka parkerizing), unless you bought a stainless barrel with a black teflon paint/coating. This is all 100% standard, normal finishing for the AR.

wont scratch without metal on metal contact. Will wear but slowly. Keep it clean though this stuff attracts dust like a magnet
