I recently purchased a dpms recon that came with a aac flash hider and now I'd like to remove it and I'm looking for some advice on the best at home method for removal. I have seen that they use rockset or loctite so soaking or heat may be needed.

What has been your guys experiences removing these things.

If it isn't pinned and welded, remove the upper from the lower, clamp the exposed barrel portion behind the flash hider in barrel blocks in a vice, heat the flash hider to 500-600 F, let sit a few minutes and turn the muzzle device off with a good wrench.

onmilo pretty much nailed it. I had a PSA upper that had a stubborn flash hider. Only difference is I fashioned my own barrel blocks out of a couple short sections of 2x4, with 1/2 circles drilled out in a diameter just smaller than that of the barrel. Put the blocks on either side of the barrel in a vise and tighten it up, it held well enough. Then used a craftsmen 3/4" wrench (IIRC on measurement) to turn it off. The $6 AR wrench I bought (DPMS, maybe(?)), was a joke as it was so narrow that it just dug into my hand when trying to turn the stubborn flash hider.

Yup 3/4 is the wrench that fits it, thanks for the help guys I'll get some blocks built today and take another whack at it.
