Hello Everyone,
Im new here so please excuse me if this is in the wrong area. I will be relocating from the east coast to the west coast in a little over a week. I have 4 pistols that I would like to bring with me. I have my Connecticut and Utah carry permits and I am aware the states that I am allowed to carry in, and I have read most the documentation online but I cant make heads or tails of a lot of it.
I am also aware of the federal laws that allow me to transport the firearms and the manner they have to be in to be transported. I will be traveling from a state to a state where I am legally allowed to own the firearms. I plan on keeping all the handguns broken down (if possible) in locked cases in the trunk of my car, the ammo will be stored in separate locked boxes.
Now all that being said. I will be taking 2 months to drive across the nation. I am taking all 2 lane back routes (like US 1, US 66, ect). My trip consist of just about 10,000 miles and multiple stops and lots of sight seeing.
I will be traveling through some very unfriendly gun areas like, New Jersey, DC, Chicago, ect. Am I within my rights to transport these firearms? What if I want to visit a State/National Park? Is the best policy don't ask don't tell if stopped? Is there anything else I should be aware of? Has anyone done anything like this that can share some tips?
I really want to be as prepared as possible so any information on the subject will be greatly appreciated.
