I'm thinking about the above. One model I'm looking at has like a compact grip, but will take an extended magazine (with a sleeve) that forms the end of the grip. So it seems like it would take either a compact magazine, or this special extended magazine with sleeve.

I'm just wondering how expensive extra magazines like that will be to get. There seems to be a lot of confusion about Witness auto and what clips are compatible with what other Witnesses.

Any insights into the magazine question, or the above model compared with the full sized 45 Witness would be appreciated.

I can help on this a bit. I had a good discussion about P series magazines with my friend at EAA recently. You are correct on which magazines it will take. The full-size 45 magazines are the cheapest and easiest to come by of any Witness magazines in my experience, given there are several makers of them. Avoid the Pro-mags. I had good service from both Mec-gar and factory EAA (Sabatti) magazines. As for the compact magazines, those are a little harder to find for the large frame guns. You may want to check CDNN, Reed's Ammunition (Ron posts here regularly and is great to deal with), or call Marc at EAA extension 210. If you call Marc tell him I sent you. He recommends using the sleeve on the 10 round full size magazines as the most cost effective solution.

Apparently the hardest mags to find are the compact mags for P series 38 Supers. The model is discontinued and there were few full-cap magazines made for the compact. I believe those would hold 13 or 14 rounds in the compact 38.

That one I am not sure on. I would contact Marc and ask him. We were discussing the sleeve issue last week so it may be he has some in stock.
