I was just reading my first issue of NRA's SHOOTING ILLUSTRATED, and ran across a write up about EAA's latest offering...a Browning High Power clone with a shorter barrel. :) Its price point is lower than the Springfield Armory SA 35, and they seem to have solved the old High Power bugaboo, hammer bite. Is there a quality/customer service choice between Springfield Armory and EAA? Any experiences with the brand, pro or con?
Of course, it has a heavy trigger pull, caused to some degree by the magazine disconnect "safety".
Is removing the device is a reasonable DIY project, or how much would I likely have to pay for a pistolsmith to do it. Any advice?
I have wanted a High Power since college, and with introduction of high-quality clones, it looks like that may be approaching reality.

If youre the least bit handy, its a fairly easy thing to do. Just need a punch and hammer. I removed it on the two I have, and didnt have any troubles.

I really didnt notice a big difference in the trigger pull on either gun. I didnt think they were bad before I took them out, I just didnt like the mags not dropping free.

If you want to see what you need to do, YouTube has some you can watch.

This one explains what goes on, and you may want to watch it first so you understand it.

Thanks!

I just scored one of these at my favorite LGS.
It is pre-owned but looks unfired, or very little.
Mine came to me with 4 spare mags still in the packaging, and there isn't a scratch on the gun anywhere.
It's the two tone finish.
For the $350.00 OTD price I couldn't say no.
I put 50 rounds through it today without a hiccup. Looking forward to getting to know this one.

I purchased one of these last year: looked good but shot like a dog. Very very very bad. Customer service with EAA/Girsan was beyond terrible. Took them forever to respond despite multiple requests and they never resolved to even look at the gun or try to have it fixed so I ended up selling it to be rid of the problems. In fact I owned two other Girsan model pistols and neither had parts that fit well nor did they shoot particularly well. Certainly not to the level of the originals they are clones of.
I like the looks of several Girsan pistols but I will never buy another one. I sold all the Girsans I bought and am glad to be rid of them. Worst customer service of any pistol manufacturer I've dealt with.

The Girsan Hi Power clones that I have are great. Figured Girsans are good but EAA already had a horrible customer service reputation. I hope I never need to use them.

Thanks! Maybe the extra for the SA 35 is worth it for QC and Customer service.

I've been shooting my Girsan Hi Power clone for around a year now (wild guess). Have had no problems at all. I also have a genuine High Power that I shoot now and then. To tell you the truth I really have to pay attention to see a difference in the two.
