Ear Protection, options for less than $75?

I was on the Cabela's site browsing and saw these, E.A.R Ultra 9000 Noise Activated Ear Muff, they have no electronics and use a valve to protect you from sounds above 120 dB, (what about slightly under that?) Anyone tried these or seen them?

Also, aspi tactical has some electronics muffs made by Radian. Have 'em? Tried 'em?

Please don't recommend items much above the price, because everything I get is usually in twos, one for me, and one for the wife. Thanks.

Walmart has remington electronic ear-muffs for $99.I'm pretty sure they are the same as the peltor 6.I like mine and for the price you can't beat it.

I had custom made ear plugs made for me at a local hearing aid office for $70 total. They look something like this, but not as expensive. I think most hearing aid centers can make these or will refer you to someone.

Get yourself and your wife a pair of Norton Sonic II hearing protectors. These sell at Wally World for about $10 a pair. They have a special metal cylinder in the rubber plug that allows you to hear normal sounds but they really do a great job blocking sounds such as gunfire. I carry a pair with me all the time. If I have a situation where I'll be encountering loud noises I just pop them in and they do the job. Just today I used them when I went out back to kill some cans with my Sp101 .357. I also wear them all the time when I hunt.

Railroader, do the Radian muffs compress the noise to a comfortable level, or do they clip them out completely?

Kevlarman, I not sure exactly how to answer your question. I know I could still hear the gun fire. Also when I was shooting my 22 it could barely hear the round go off but I could hear ricochet immediately after. I know on the ad at the website it says no clipping. Railroader, I was just wondering if you think the Radians reduce the noise level suffeciently by themselves, or would you also need to use them in conjunction with ear plugs? Also, how would you rate the quality of these muffs? I have been considering the Peltor tac 6 model. Looks like the Radian might be better. (Radians rated 23 db, tac 6- 19db) Thanks

pooch, I used the muffs by themselves. They seem to suppress sound about like my regular muffs. I tried them tonight with earplugs and the volume cranked up. I could still understand my TV. The quality on the radians seems fine. I'm satisfied. One thing, the the headhand was pretty snug so I spread it open a bit so it wasn't so tight on my head. If you decide to order one from Botach they have the AAA alkaline batteries cheap, 20 for $5 Here's a scanned pic(kinda crappy pic). Mark

Harbor Freight, it's where I got my on sale calipers. I didn't see any when I was there, and I specifically looked, guess I will ask next time I go there.

Wal-Mart was a dead end too.

I got my Radians today. I've never used electronic hearing protection before, and I think these are pretty nifty! Amplifies sounds real well, and mitigates loud noise (like hand clapping, video game gunfire, etc).

The harbor freight website has the muffs for $35, maybe the store itself has it for less.

Seems the Radians are good... since I shoot more, maybe I will get myself those ones, and my wife the Harbor Freight ones...
